Hitch Hikers

On the way up to St Ives this morning I gave a lift to a hitch hiker. The weather was really cold and foggy, the poor guy looked frozen. Probably not a very wise thing to do ahd I haven't done that for ages but I felt sorry for him and fortunately there were no problems.

Do you pick up hikers or is it a rare thing now?

Only once, i took a guy from the RB at Truro up to exeter services, he was telling me about how the further you go up the longer you have to wait to get a lift and also about the scariest lift he'd had was from a guy who was sniffing coke off the dash whilst driving

The only time I picked up a hitch hiker was someone I recognised from the college I was attending at the time. Seemed wrong to ignore him when I was going the same way. It was fine but never done it again and prob never would, though I have felt bad driving past them.

Have done for a while but last time I did was in a company car and they didn't need to go to far.

Have also had success hitch hiking - while younger and in France.

I've hardly ever seen a hitchhiker. I've offered a lift to a couple at Glastonbury but I was driving my old 944 and they didn't fancy trying to jam themselves in the back.

Used to pick them up quite regularly, but then I carry a busted torque wrench down the side of the seat anyway...

Has some quite interesting guys and girls to chat to before and I have hitched myself many times so its a case of what goes around comes around I think.

I did have one guy ask me if my Civic handled well when we were on a bendy but of road that I knew very well, he was shaking when he got out the car! 'Yes.....here....is....just...fine.....'

Good job they didn't try and steal the car! That would be tricky to explain to your employer.

I never have, and never will.

Really not worth it if they turn out to be a nutter!

Used to hitch around Cornwall a bit when I was younger (I was a Bodmin School lad) but wouldn't do it these days.. too many risks.

All the ones I see are thumbing a lift in a place where its impossible to park which is just stupid. Almost stopped for a couple of cute girls a year back but then remembered a film id seen where their mad boyfriends are hiding in the bushes, not the girls who were hitchiking's mad boyfriends the girl in the film. Anyway no I never have picked one up.

My brother and i had finished surfing down at Sennen, on the way home a fellow sponger was hitching and we picked him up and he clambered into the back of the defender (our first one that got nicked by pikeys not the pink one)

After about 1.5 miles he was pretty shaken and asked to get out even though he was miles away from where he wanted to be

Only time i have ever picked up hitchikers was in Cuba and it was the law to pick them up. Made a vow to myself to pick them up in the UK whenever I see them, haven't seen any for like 3 years

never have done. saw a couple of fit girls hitching from the first servies out of london on the M1 as i was heading to leeds but was in a foul moud so drive on past. kicked myself a little later as i brightened up

A hitch hiker must always remember to keep their towel close by at all times.

I myself have never picked up a hitch hiker, though as has been mentioned, you just don't see them that much anymore.
