Heating/Boiler problems!?!

We have been having some issues for a while now with our water temperature fluctuating during use. For example, in the shower, for the first 10 seconds or so it is fine but then for the rest of the time it will switch between the right temperature to going cold and then back to warm (without touching anything). Same with all the taps, they cant stay hot for longer than 5 seconds. So we had British Gas come out who thought they knew what was wrong, something to do with too much gas being used for the radiators and not enough for heating the water. So they came back yesterday, spent two hours fitting new parts and nothing has changed really. The taps closest to the boiler downstairs are better but upstairs its just as bad as it was.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or has anyone experienced similar?

Had something similar a few years ago with a traditional heating system (hot water tank in the airing cupboard rather than a combi). Turned out it was something called the actuator valve which I bought from a heating suppliers and replace for about £37. It was a separate bit to the actual boiler so wasn't too hard
Well, assuming it's a 80/105E or similar, my 'guess' without seeing it would be the hot water thermistor isn't sensing correctly.
Alternatively they do suffer from a rather crappy gas valve on the early ones on which the 'low flame' drifts. They use a cobbled up half SIT-half Honeywell valve with a funny little adjustment for the modulation.
You need someone who actually knows what they are doing, which I have to say, you haven't had 'round the house yet by the sound of it.

Are you getting any diagnostics from the temperature lamps across the front, or isn't it actually locking out?
