Humax turns on over night?

I bought my parents a Humax for my dads birthday not long ago - and they have been using it on and off and getting used to it.

However i get here today and am told that its broken and needs mending????

Turns out that it keeps turning itself on over night?

I can't see anythign that has been scheduled to be recorded so I don't think its for that....

Any ideas? It keeps coming from the red light to thegreen light - if that makes any sense?

My Pioneer PVR does it (don't know how frequently though), but it does switch itself off again afterwards.

There is a setting for it to turn on and check for firmware updates overnight, but it should turn off again afterwards.

There is also a menu option that lets you set it to come on or go off at a certain time, so it might be worth checking to see if those are set.

It doesn't turn itself on to check the schedule, except when it is set for a recording when it turns of 15 minutes early to wait for the start signal if you have accurate recording enabled.

Yes .. they turn on briefly overnight to check for Over The Air updates. Normally 4am, I think. But then should turn off again ...

There's a website which gives a timetable of when each brand of PVR will receive it's updates - can't for the life of me remember the name though

Further investigation reveals - it does this every night. not just once a week.

So sometime ebtween about midnight and 6/7 am its turnign itself on, from standby, the fan kicking in etc etc and then not turning off.....

My sat receiver (not Humax) has a timer setting in the menu with both an "on" and seperate "off" time bar. Once you have set the "on" time this will repeat every 24 hours, switching the unit on. Equally you then set an "off" time and again this will repeat every 24 hours untill cancelled in the menu. I have on occasion forgoten to cancel the timer after recording and only realised when the machine has turned on again the following night.Could your Fathers' machine be doing the same?

My Humax (9200 something? DVB anyway) may well turn itself on at night, it's set to auto update firmware but seems pretty slow to update the EPG. It's always off in the morning though (just displays the clock).

Why do they care if it is on? My Sky box is only off when it has crashed!
