Rant about police etc

This has really infuriated me to a point where I feel I have to vent it off somewhere! As you can tell from my Amazon thread, I’m in a bad mood as it is.

Anyway, as most will know, there was a lot of press about the behaviour of the Spurs fan at Fratton Park (Portsmouth) earlier this season in which Sol Campbell was given a lot of abuse (racial, homophobic and insinuating he has AIDS). Now, as a Spurs fan this ‘abuse’ to Campbell has been going on since he left the Club to go to our arch rivals Arsenal on a free transfer. Now, I won’t go into more detail on this, but anyone here who is a football fan should be able to understand why us Spurs fans were so pissed off with what happened [relate it to your Club if you support one, take your captain and best player who the fans worship and then let him go to your most fiercest rivals for NOTHING]. If you’re not a football fan and won’t understand you’re best off skipping the next few paragraphs!

Does anyone find this a complete joke? Out of all 3,000+ who were singing these ‘songs’ they’ve targeted just 16!? God, they must have been able to make a hell of a racket with just 16 of them singing! And come on, for fk sake they’re making them out to be murderers or rapists! In fact, murderers, rapists and those who commit far more serious crimes (which the police in question should have probably been dealing with instead of taking photographs of 16 typical football fans) don’t even have their identities revealed and their pictures published (Baby P case for example). The whole situation is just ridiculous!

I’ve been a season ticket holder for a couple of years now and have been going to the football and spending money and time following my Club ever since I can remember! So yeah I feel pretty passionately about my Club but fortunately what I say and do inside a ground stays in there. It’s a way of venting off a lot of my stress and frustration from my daily life and a lot of people I speak to who also watch their team regularly think the same. I won’t even get onto the subject of not being able to stand at football matches!!!! We’ll soon be told to “sit down and shut up!”.

Now, carrying on from this, we now have cigarettes sold under the counter with stupid anti-smoking lobbyists constantly being made to look like idiots by pro-smoking/consumer groups like Forest yet constantly getting their own way. I’m not a smoker by the way but I respect smokers rights. Also as someone pointed out, making smoking out to be as bad as it is only makes it ‘cooler’ to the younger generation. In fact I admit to having a few ciggies when out with friends as it’s more sociable to be outside under heaters than sitting on my Jack in a bar or restaurant.

I also had to listen to some stupid cow on breakfast television about censorship on lads mags! fking lads mags! WTF harm have they ever done you!? Offensive? Woman’s boobs? Oh come on, this has to be a bloody wind up!

Can you imagine the court hearing, “so little Tommy, why did you rape this vulnerable girl?” “because I read The Sun and saw a topless woman on page 3”. I mean it’s just obscene.

We are turning into a major nanny state and it’s got to stop!

I’ve written out more than enough and I don’t want to bore you any longer.

I’m just off to play Mario Kart, so watch out for a speeding motorist later throwing tortoise shells out of his car window.

So you are saying if 3000 people come and smash your car and house up, that is ok, and they should all get away with it cos there is a lot of them doing it? If they id'd 16 of the 3000, you would not want them punished?
If they have identified 16 breaking a law, what is the problem with prosecuting them?
The safety in numbers defence seems odd to me. If you break the law, face the consequences, if you dont want to, dont do it!

It's like saying you were only speeding cos everyone else was....you think the Court's would listen to it?

Look if you're upset spurs are still ste go and cry to your mum.

They broke the law they got caught, they will get banning orders. Meaning you and your firm will have to go on having fights in the pub now and not at the match.

No I'm not. I wasn't even there.

However, regardless of what team these fans support, I think it's bang out of order just hand picking a random 16. These guys could lose their jobs as 'racial slurs' are mentioned in the press regarding the who situation. What's to prove these 16 were being racial!? Do you see what I'm getting at?

My grandad was on a plane coming back from France 3 weeks ago. On the plane he ordered some nuts to which he was told they weren't serving them on the plane BECAUSE ONE PASSENGER WAS ALLERGIC TO THEM!

So 1 person dictates that the rest of the plane can't eat nuts? That IS nuts.

What evidence do you have that they've been randomly picked out? I'm sure the police have evidence on these 16, as potential 'ring leaders' of the idiotic cheers, otherwise they wouldn't be wasting their time! It's quite common in cases where masses have either broken the law, or come close, to then go after the ring leaders and so keep the masses in order.

I doubt it's random. They have probably chosen the 16 they have sufficient evidence to prosecute.

CCTV? Witness statements? You know, the usual stuff needed to prove a case in a court of law.

That it's in a stadium doesn't make it more acceptable. Do it in the street and expect to be lynched / arrested as appropriate.

Being a football fan doesn't give you a free pass to be an obnoxious twunt, although I accept that many football fans seem to think otherwise.

So, the police have studied the video/pictures of the crowd, and identified 16 people where they think there's enough evidence to get a conviction. But you think they should let them off and forget about it because they can't do likewise for the other few thousand people involved? Weird.

What is football coming to anyway? Overpaid prima donnas who show no heart for clubs, just interested in being paid $$$ which in turn puts ticket prices up to extortionate amounts. We get treated like school kids by stewards constantly telling us to sit down and them standing in our way. No swearing, no chanting, no singing. Football and those involved are abusing the fact that the clubs run close to our hearts thinking they can treat us however they want.

No it isn't. I know someone who will suffer a very serious allergic reaction if a packet of nuts are opened in the room she's in.

I think passengers on a plane being given a non-nutty snack is preferable to someone going into anaphylactic shock on a flight, don't you?

So one guy stabs someone and 3,000 do likewise, the guy that made the first 'cut' is the only one to be arrested?

Want to arrest them? They should arrest all 3,000 of them.

Not sure what CCTV they have inside Fratton Park (limited is my guess) and the pictures taken were apparently taken by police/stewards with cameras. Or so I've been lead to believe.

They should cull the violence, not the freedom of speech.

1. I'd not take my kids ot a football match if swearing or homophobic and racist chanting was the norm.

2. You feel that football and the clubs are abusing the fans' support, but it's ok to abuse players and staff.
