Indoor skydiving?

Wanted to have a go at this in New Zealand - it looks like a huge amount of fun.. However, it was very expensive, and I spent the $$ instead on a go in a jet boat (one of those loony 2 seat jobbies that they race) and chucking myself down a hillside in a zorb-ball...
I'd wager that 30 mins in a microlite would be the better experience, and much better value for money.

If you're going to do it, do it at Bedford. This uses the vertical wind tunnel from the old RAE which was originally used for testing aircraft behaviour in a spin, and it's mahoosive compared to the titchy little things you'll find anywhere else. You can also tell people you've been skydiving in the same place as 007, you might even find you have the same instructor as he did.
Wow 10 minutes. I only did 2 lots of 1 minute when I had a go inside.
Good fun, but not the same thing as skydiving. For a start you don't have to worry about doing a whole load of instructor jumps before you cann get the free-fall experience. You also don't have a bloody great pack strapped to your back so you can move freely.
If you want to sky-dive do that, if you want a free-fall experience do it inside.

Went into the tunnel at Bedford earlier in the year with a couple of skydivers from work. I'm not a skydiver myself, but 5 x 2 minute sessions in the tunnel was enough to get to the point where I could free-fly in the stable position without the instructor hanging on and do a few turns. I thought it was great TBH, a good adrenaline rush and I was wired for ages afterwards. It did make me want to go off and do an accelerated free-fall course.

But surely by doing the 'free-fall experience' inside you're not actually experiencing free-fall - you'd only get that falling/zero-G thing by actually throwing yourself out of a plane? * Doing it inside seems like the equivalent of lying on a big fluffy bed, except the mattress springs are replaced by air.....I've done a tandem jump, and not even bungy and canyon swings could prepare me for the 'Oh s
t' acceleration and feeling of weightlessness.... and the view's better as well!

My wife bought me a go as a birthday present, and yes it's good fun, but not a patch on the real thing. She thought it would stop me wanting to do the real thing, but it only increased my wanting to try free falling from a plane.

As above though, if she wants to try a skydive, get her a tandem jump? Nothing beats leaping out of a perfectly good plane IMHO.
