What dishwasher <= £300

Howdy,
Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for dishwashers upto £300. Looking around it appears to be either Hotpoint or Zanussi in that price range, but reviews online are suitably vague with most people saying machine x is crap, or excellent.
So i put it to the PH audience to see if any recommendations are forthcoming.

Last March (07) the missus bought a Hotpoint Aquarius+ whilst I was away in Spain on a trip.
It is the worst dishwasher I have owned. Every single plastic component in it has broken on its own, it washed a bit better after we opened up the holes in the upper spray arm which had not been opened in the factory. If you use anything but really cheap powder in it your stuff winds up covered in baked on grit. And the plastic fascia which covers the instrument panel has cracked all on its own
When I complained about the poor performance they said it was all my fault, but they could send a service engineer at a cost equal to 33% or a new one just to tell me that it was rubbish
I emailed the chairman but I've had no reply so I would recommend, don't buy a Hotpoint - or a Zanussi as they're all the same firm - as are Bosch

Incorrect. Hotpoint are part of the Indesit group, covering Hotpoint, Indesit, Cannon and Creda. Zanussi are part of the Electrolux group, covering Electrolux, Zanussi, AEG and Tricity Bendix. Bosch are part of the BSH group, covering Bosch, Neff and Siemens.As you may have gathered by now I work in the kitchen appliance industry. I would generally recommend Bosch for the price bracket you are looking for, they aren't quite as good as they were but still quite a way ahead of their peers, and you should get a longer warranty with them as well.
I worked in the retail side of the industry until a few months ago, as has been said, Bosch will be the best quality you can get for £300. Last time I checked Miele's were £550-£600, might be worth having a look around, VAT reduction and credit crunch may see retailers selling them for less, but i would doubt below £450 to be honest.
If you do want to go for a Zanussi or Hotpoint, best to go John Lewis, as they give you an extra years warranty (so 2 total) which is a godsend as that quality level of machine shouldnt be expected to last more than 3 or 4 years if using once or twice a week.

I've got a Smeg which didn't cost much more than £300 & I can recommend it. It replaced a Hotpoint which lasted barely 12 months before it was practically falling apart-the door literally came off in my hand. It's been on at least once every day for the last year & seems to be coping very well.

I don't work in the industry, but I'd say that, too. Great summary.Twas the week before christmas 2007 - and our just out of warranty to of the range Bosch died - being averse to fairy liquid emergency measures were called for - a quick ebay for £50 got us an old Bosch. Now the deceased one had ludicrous amounts of never used programmes, a digital timer etc etc - washed very badly from day one the handle cracked for no apparent reason - it was cr*p - enforced pikiness was absolved in our minds by assertion - they're self cleaning aren't they? The example we picked up as a cheap stop gap replacement has a clockwork (? - well mechanical anyway) timer, three basic programmes and has been fantastic - huge salt appetite but gets an A1 - for something we were expecting to ditch after a few months it's still going strong and when it does eventually give up the ghost I may actually consider funding a repair. Moral to the story a) low / old tech works just fine & b) Bosch don't appear to be what they were.

When my rather old freezer went wrong recently the repairman said that the insurance company would likely insist on a repair. It must be 20 years old!Not needed, in the end; I'd just been dumb enough to adjust it 'a little' and adjusting it back fixed it.
Inevitably, they offered a re-gas!
You can be unluckly with any make ... but ...
I've had a Basch d. washer / w. machine / f.freezer for 7 years now, all going strong.
My mates got similar, must have had his almost 10 years, no issues.
Most of my family have Miele.
Mums first Miele washing machine lasted 15 years in a hard water area (which is what generally kills them). In that time it had just two repairs, a swich and new door seal, oh, 3, sorry, it got blocked due to limescale.
The dishwasher is 18 years old, it's had a new spray arm.
My uncles washing machine / dishwasher must be over 25 years old, though in a soft water area.
Moral of the story is buy German.

It's worked fine (touch wood) for 8 yrs and is used 1-2 times per day.

I would check if they still make it, Which? have a habit of recommending discontinued appliances. They also have a habit of slating a product that is the exact same as the one they have just recommended, just with a different brand.
