I've just got back from China on business and have been wined and dined a fair bit - particular delicacies included:

Sea slug
Dog
Ducks tongue
Pigs intestine
Chickens feet
Jellyfish
Shark-fin soup
Ducks brain (and eyes)
And other stuff besides!

Anyway, much of the above was quite tasty!

I saw a very disturbing documentary on underground restaurants in China. They would have endangered and of course illegal animals locked in cages alive. The patrons would walk through a smelly grungy hallway and choose the animal they wished to eat. They would kill the animal on the spot and serve it as they requested. What got to me however was the picture of a young deer with its hind legs cut off and its skin/fur hanging over the bone. It was alive but quiet and obviously dazed. They cut its legs off because it kept kicking the cage.

They also had a nasty soup where it was the stomach of an animal, and you cut it open and eat the half way digested food the animal ate that day. It was pretty sick looking. imagine cutting the stomach open of an animal and eating whatever is inside it.

On another note however, they also took a shot of snakes blood, which the journalist said tasted very salty, but immediately he felt a surge through his body, he said it was extremely envigorating. Supposedly they use snake blood as a form of Viagra over there...

So, how was the ducks brains?

I'm assuming that it makes for better eating when they tell you what it is after you have eaten it.

Thats disgusting. Weather permitting I like my dog hanging for a good week before butchering.

Im suprised they dont make customers go a step farther and kill it themselves coliseum style, smack dab in the middle of the restaurant for all to enjoy.
