I've just come back from London. Lovely couple of days, but right at the end, some ruddy cabby got all arsey when I went to pay him.

The fayre was £13, so gave the exact amount in £1 coins, and a couple of 50p pieces.
I was in a hurry with a friend to catch our train, and guy just looks at me sternly, complaining "Aaahhhhh I don't want that! Not all that".

ME: "Well mate, I'm sorry but I don't have any notes"

CABBY: "F*cking hell! I'm not having all that"

ME: "Look! Do you want to get paid or not? It's the full amount. It's money. You've been paid. I'm in a hurry!"

CABBY: "F*cking hell!"(yet again) "I don't f*cking believe that".

ME: "Just f*ck off! You've got your money, now just get lost!"

So I turn around and just walk away. Consequently missed my train by all of a minute thanks to this exchange! banghead

I know it's not great to get a handful of change, but sheesh! Surely there's no need to be such to$$er about it! rolleyes

Any other PHers had any run-in's with cabbies?

Darren

It's not like he has to carry it round in his pocket all day.

He probably just wanted you to chuck him a twenty and not wait for the change...

Sounds like a he was just being a waz. I'm sure he'll have need for it later in the night.

Answer 1 sounds plausible too.

How does this cabby thing work? Do they run their cab as their own business and keep all the fare or are they emplyed by someone else and salaried or paid on commission etc?

exactly, change is useful for them surely.

Never had a problem with blackcab drivers myself, its just the ones i catch at 4am that get a bit more interesting.

Providing the door was open, i'd have just thrown it on the floor in the back and jumped out as soon as he started moaning.

In fairness I'd have got out of the cab and let him with nowt. If someone says they don't want the legal tender they are offered then my attitude is fine!

Would you have caught the train if you had ran instead of walked?

You should have just chucked your change at him, and then, in your best Danny Dyer accent, called him a "cant". That would've calmed the situation.

You should've committed suicide on the back of his cab, cut your throat or something that'll learn em.
