CRT televisions and monitors

Are CRT televisions and computer monitors no longer made? It wasn't that long ago that people were saying that their image quality was still superior to that of LCD and plasma and they were cheaper. So are LCD and plasma televisions and monitors now better than CRT, or did their size alone allow them to win?

I do lots of screen work and when my last CRT bit the dust I had a bit of a game trying to track down another.

That was about 2 years ago now, I didnt want to fork out mega bucks on a flatscreen (they were still expensive then) and also I do like CRT better... might just be me though... I'm sure flatsceen must be superior quality now?

I have a big LCD telly - but to be honest I'm not keen on that for fast moving images.

For quite a while resolutions could be higher on CRT monitors that thier LCD equivalents, contrast and definition was better too.

A good quality Modern LCD with a very fast refresh rate and response time will out perform a CRT now though.

There are LOADS of pretty crappy LCD screens around though, response times of 25ms+ are still common and will not lend them selves to anything fast moving.

But the very fastest (~2ms) screens are likely to be 'TN' type panels and the colour is crap and the viewing angle is crap.

Aim for 'MPVA' or 'SPVA' or something (was a while since I got clued up), normally about 5-8ms response. You can find out what kind of panel any monitor has with a bit of searching.

I've got a ~£400 24" LG and I prefer Photoshop on it to my 22" Lacie Electron.
