Subwoofer with a cough...

Couldn't find an AV forum, here goes...

For a few years now I have been running my Sky+ and DVD player through a Kenwood 5.1 amp, hooked up to a set of Eltax Liberty speakers and a 100watt Celestion subwoofer.

Basically, for a month or so now the sub has randomly started "buzzing" very loudly. Initially it could be "reset" into working properly by blasting a little volume through. However, now it will just buzz very loudly without working properly. I've had to disconnect it. Fiddling with all of the various settings on the back of the sub does not help.

Any ideas?

Can't really be of much help but check all the earths/amp connections. Sounds like a good excuse to splurge on a new sub to me.

it's buggered, but not in a horrific way - prob a dry cap or something.

google the following:

multicare (leeds)
gogglebox tv (bristol)
fullers (somewhere east, i forget)

We're contracted to those 3, they all do a decent job. Get an engineer of the blower, explain and see what they say.

Failing that, get a new sub. there are loads of deals to be had out there (hell, I'll even do you a special on my demo infinity Cascade 12, only downside is it's in a naff wood finish). mind, that sub would almost certainly eclipse your front pair, so prob. better off elsewhere!
