Scrap Metal Values

Do we have any scrap men on here?

Im currently hoarding scrap.....just for fun really. I loved loading the truck up with 2 cars full of metal rubbish in the summer and walking away with 6-700 quid from the scrap yard.

Probably got 25 tons sitting here at the farm now......anyone in the know make an educated guess as to when it will go back up (or even if?)

The last I heard was that Korea would be the next big buyers......BUT WHEN?

There are a few scrap men on here, who have talked about how the market is in the last few months - use the search function to find those threads.

The bottom has fallen out of the scrap metal market, with piles of the stuff stockpiled unsold. So, if you can find someone who wants to take it off your hands, you are not going to get much for it.

used to be good, is now practically non existant, I'm afraid. Chinese don't want it any more - a sign of things to come?

They don't want it because production is down because sales are down because the economy is down.

Get some more and in 2-3 years it should be fine again, though probably not as good as before. But it will get there sooner or later.

I got £130/ton yesterday, for 5' heavy steel.

you will struggle to get a good price. uk steel producer isn't buying any due to decreased production, and steel prices are weak.

Coppers dropped from over £3000 per ton, to around £2300-500 per ton.

Anyone know what steel, aluminium and brass are at right now? I've heard a few people saying its starting to rise again, but I can't imagine its going to get anywhere near the prices we saw in the summer.

You can see the drop in values across last year.

Thanks very much. Thats just what I needed.

The prices there seem to be about doube what the yards are/were paying. Are those prices what the yards get when they sell it on?

Those prices are what the yards receive after they have processed / cleaned / bulked the material up and transported to the processors...

Hence the difference!

Can't believe i never spotted this thread earlier!! Things are actually looking up a little in the world of ferrous prices. We are currently paying £110 per tonne for mixed shearing iron and £70 per tonne for cars. Not back to the unbelieveable prices of last summer but in my opinion still very good prices considering the economic climate.

lead is slowly recovering we're currently paying £450 per tonne.

yeah cheers. was getting £1200 per Tonne in Feb
can't see that price happenig again...
