I've been subject to a days training from an ex-Plod and it ammounted to a similar thing.

They're taught to drive fast but defensively and mitigate risk as far as possible. I found it a great experience and reduced my accident rate immensely.

Ride Drive by any chance?, the chap I had was an Ex police instructor.

They made it quite clear that it was my choice how fast I went, and there were no "free passes" available.
