by defending yourself, the person who breaks in should be the only one who is held responsible, after all they are the ones who decided to break into someone's home, I think it would be shocking to think i could be locked up for defending me and my family.

If someone broke into my house I don't know what the outcome would be as I'd be looking to disable them in any way possible. I’ve got a crash axe someone gave me under my bed should I be in that situation!

Think there is some nonsense about using 'reasonable force' which means you need the intruder to sign a legally binding contract stating what his/her intentions are, what he/she is carrying and what their punching weight is. Then you can decide what is an apprpriate response but you can only give them a kicking if they are wearing a hi-vis vest and you are wearing safety boots. Something like that anyway.

If the attacker has only only a torch, and you diable them with your Maglite 6 Cell 'Rodney King Edition', then that's probably fine

Binding them to a chair, whilst playing Stealers Wheels' "stuck in the middle with you" and waving a cut throat razor as you dance around them - probably isn't...

You dont have time to think, he could have a concealed weapon, unless you've been in that position of someone breaking in to your home you will never know what really is involved here.

Wasn't there a topic on here about a guy who caught a thief on his CCTV? I think they were trying to nick his car. I can't remember the outcome but I think he gave him a proper shoeing. Anyone remember the thread?
