London- where to stay advice required

I have an appointment at 9am in Mayfair in a few weeks- it's of absolute importance that I make it on time.

Therefore I plan to stay in London the night before, only problem being that I'll be in the car. I'd rather not pay the C-charge or 50 quid a day to park therefore I'm looking at my options for somewhere to stay that's within easy travelling distance of Mayfair (say half an hour by tube/bus/rail), won't mean paying the c-charge and has the possibility of parking for less than 50 quid per 24hrs.

Being clueless about London other than the city what I need are some suggestions of areas I should be looking at and if anyone knows some decent Hotels as well it would be great.

Where are you travelling in from?
If the tube sustem is running well, half an hour gets you to most outskirts.

Where are you coming in from? Even the outskirts (eg Woking) could be train and tube of c45mins

The Paddington area has loads of cheap and cheerless hotels, and can see you in Mayfair with a 10-15min bus ride.

There is a Travelodge in Kew which has free underground parking, plus at Kew/Richmond you get a choice of overground/undergroud if one is knackered. Handy if you are coming in from south or west. Cheapish too. Should be less than an hour into the centre

Great info- I was thinking more about the cost/hassle of Mayfair parking than the hotel cost. Wouldn't mind paying upto 150 quid a night for something nice. Just can't bear the thought of paying 50 quid parking from a value for money perspective.

Investigating the options now, might be quite nice if it was somewhere near some decent pubs.

If you don't mind doing it a little backwards, why not park outside the C zone and tube into the hotel?

The Sofitel St James is pretty nice and you can usually get a last minute deal.

Others are the Soho Hotel, The Stafford or possibly The Trafalgar. Advertised rates normally at around £200 so a third off Claridges, The Hilton etc at the least. Their Rack rates normally see that come down a fair bit.

Failing that the Travel Lodge at City Airport is a 40 minute trip at the most.

That's exactly what I plan to do- stay outside the C-zone but have the minimum trip time in the morning, lower parking costs and somewhere niceish to stay.

guess it is some mega important job interview ?

so maybe worth dumping the car in on of the secure underground station car parks, pay for a few days and tube into a station and get a hotel near mayfair, then u can get up at a reasonable time and get to the site at say 8:30 with no stress

It's a business meeting and probably (hopefully) one of the most important of my life- I'm meeting a Nigerian gentleman to hand over a small fee to facilitate the transfer of monies I inherited from a great Uncle I've never met.

Not really but it is v.important was just thinking about options really, there is hotel available pretty cheaply on the same street as my meeting but I just hate the idea of paying cash to the C-charge people and wasting 50 quid on parking. It's the principle as much as the cost.

But much cheaper to park outside town and maybe fluff it by getting into the meeting, hot and flustered after various things broke down, am sure the very important people will understand u getting there for 9:24 ?

Really a no-brainer,

1 do u want to gurantee to be at the meeting on time by walking out of the door
or
2 do you hope nothing breaks down and leaves u 25 miles away in heavy traffic ?

Try the Goring Hotel on Beeston Place. They can park your car for you too - but you should arrange this with the hotel if you book.

Beeston Place is the extension of Ebury Street - a shortish stroll to Sloane Square and a couple of minutes from Victoria. Some great pubs in the area too.
