I'm confused by the Government!

Just listening to the news on Radio One and it would appear that the Government are looking to save Land Rover/Jaguar from going under.

But surely do they not think that because they've told everyone that fuel guzzling cars are bad for the environment and put them in a sky high tax bracket accordingly that people will stop buying such cars.
So why would they bail out a company producing apparently "planet killing" cars? And how many other car companies will they also have to save? Where will they draw the line?
Touch of guilt maybe?
They actually don't care if we kill the planet but they want the higher tax band income?
Double standards in a major way!

I think Jaguar should downsize into a more specialised manufacturer rather than chase volume sales, they just don't seem to be able to make a profit that way. One high end saloon model and a couple is ample for their market IMO.
