Looking back at 2008, I can say with some conviction that it was a crap year, with some good moments...
Lost 30% of my investments, my boss died, and I am leaving my job in a couple of weeks. The Canadian GP was cancelled, leaving no NA venue for F1.Not completely sure of next moves. Absolutely sure that 2009 will be a disaster for the economy as a whole, (Canada).

OTOH, no debts or mortgage, and a very low run rate.

There were some interesting times, nonetheless...
Said goodbye to my trusty 2005 Touareg V8, the moest trouble free car I ever owned...

In February took a trip to India

Got to drive an Ambassador,,

Went to Varanasi, the sacred city where Hindus go to be cremated....

Didn't you also take delivery of an RS and go to the ring with it? Surely another couple of upsides? When I can afford an RS it would probably rank along side losing my virginity!

Good points for me:
Birth of my daughter, our first child, on 11th January
Got to spend lots of time with wife & daughter due to working from home
Got pretty much the whole house redecorated, new telly, 5.1 surround system, new couch etc

Bad points for me:
Our beloved cat, Paco, died in April
Made redundant after 15 years with same employer
Sold my 'toy' - 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX - and replaced it with a Focus Diesel.

Hang on, you travelled to India, Cuba and Europe, have several cars, including an RS, and you've had a crap year?

Not alot! It all went by so quick, I'm sat here looking a tax return that needs filling in wondering where the year went yikes

Did get a holiday though (first time in 4 years), got some exploring done in Turkey:

Before starting my dream job....

....which I left after 2 weeks because I hated being back in an office job! hehe

Now can you tell us how clever your kids are and how well they are doing at school?

And maybe news of your amdram achievements, and your wife's new business?

Perhaps in an email?

Or printed out and popped in a christmas card?

That'd be great. I love them.

I think it'd be too depressing for him. He'd have to tell us about that awful time Cameron Diaz gave him a BJ whilst he won the lottery, instead.

I must admit, I do admire the dogged determination to finish this diary par excellence come what may
