Juice's rant at gordon got me thinking.

So I would like to say a big thank you to all our lads and lasses that are serving away from home this xmas. Whilst I and many others will be surrounded by our families others will be fighting in our name.

Thank you and merry xmas I hope most sincerely that It will not be long before you get to sit with your family for a nice feast. and the coming year bring you good fortune and happyness

I will raise my glass and toast your bravery before I slice the bird this year

thank you

Top Man beer

My Rant was really more at exasperation that he can throw billions of pounds at people who really shouldn't be in charge of running a bath (even though that's the industry I'm in) and yet seem to have made the armed forces "The forgotten people" - unless there's political capital to be made from it.

Bit calmer now - amazing what a rant can do !

Wouldn't it be great if instead of the usual 'legendary' threads which make it to the top of the Google search pile, we could somehow get this one there?

I know loads of people in the services and unfortunately I don't think any of them think they are "fighting in our name". They are simply fighting because it's their job. Most of the ones I know don't even agree with the Iraq war, many even thought it was illegal.

They are doing a great job in very difficult circumstances though and I expect will be needed in Afghanistan for many more Christmases to come.

Good luck to them all and I hope they all come back safely.

I've never seen a better thread! My most heartfelt of thoughts goes out to all our troops fighting at this time and any time of year. I'll also take it one step further by thanking and raising a toast to all them in the Emergency Services (Police, Ambulance, Fire etc.) who will risk their lives and also be working over the Christmas period.

Them in the Emergency Services and Forces risk their lives on a daily basis to make life better for me and you alike - they are heroes in their own right.

Hip, hip, hooray to them all!
