When I was at my function last night, I was talking to some Army guys on my sqn of various cap badges (REME, Int Corps, Sigs) and we were all agreeing that despite the rivalry between all the forces that we all know someone who has been lost and we all respect what each other does, and we raised a glass to the lads who won't ever get to do such things again.

+1, how in gods name we can still send young men to be slaughtered FOR NO GOOD REASON is beyond me.

When do we have the war crimes trials for this bunch of Labour slime?Defence ministers from the start of both conflicts have betrayed our services with out of date and low quality equipment.

Despite inquests stating that deaths were caused by equipment not fit for purpose, the defence ministers have continually ignored the FACTS, while another death occured.They are just as guilty as the WW1 generals who sent thousands to their deaths.

I would hang everyone of them.

Not sure I agree with the whole donkey thing exactly but that is a discussion for another thread, but no doubt about it that the forces have been asked to carry out an impossible mission while being under-funded and with gear that is often not up to the task and a government and to some extent, a general public (some sections of it, by no means all) that treats them with no respect whatsoever is amazing.

I have many friends in the forces, including people who served in WW2 as well as two mates who are off to Afghanistan soon for another tour and both professionally and personally I have total respect for these guys.

My heart goes out to the families of those who have been killed and injured doing a thankless task with tireless dedication.

We owe our servicemen and women so much more than a little paper poppy once a year.
