I am conducting some research for my business degree. I would be extremely grateful if the PH community could offer me their thoughts on the questions above. Rating German Lager beers in relation to the other beers from around the world.
I would like to see how the UK population perceive German beer. At the moment there is only one prevalent German beer, Becks, in the Uk.
If anyone would like to add their further thoughts or experiences with German beer please feel free to comment below.

Mods please don't move as I realize this should be in the Restaurant/Food and Drink forum but would really appreciate exposure to the high traffic from the P&P-cheers.

The simple fact that German beer adheres to the "Reinheitsgebot" (Beer purity law) makes it the best beer in the world. It doesn't contain any additives such as colour/flavour/preservatives as does most UK beer.

Yes, but only one country does ale properly (with tiny exceptions), and ale is best, therefore I can only vote for excellent in good conscience.I'll always choose a German beer over anything else if it's on the menu

Unfortunately in the UK there are primarily 3 types of beer, ale, lager and stout, There are many more varieties produced in Germany, take a look here for starters, and all are free from garbage:http://www.germanbeerguide.co.uk/styles.html

I disagree. The varieties of beer on the link you gave are the similar for real bitters & ales brewed in the UK (and elsewhere), e.g. Porter, IPA, Wheatbeer, etc.http://www.germanbeerguide.co.uk/styles.html
You are however correct in your allusion that much of the UK stuff (mainstream) is full of garbage
I agree with some of the guys on here,a good pint of real ale served well,knocks the spots of anything else.
although germany like belgium have some interesting trappist style beers and wheat beers also.
cant understand why people like lager,it's tasteless and full of fizz,real ales have so many interesting flavours and styles,why would you drink anything else?

The original, equivalent brew in Europe is usually ok. In the UK, they spend far to much on advertising, leaving insufficient time for the proper brewing process.Why do they do this, to keep costs down and increase use by dates?
Try selling the kak they serve in the UK in Europe & they'd spit it back at you.

Becks is ok but it is popular for "export". Still, it only costs €2.50 - €3.00 for a 0.33l bottle in a city bar or club in Germany. In the supermarket it's abot €0.60 cents for a 0.5l bottle Cant beat a pint of wife beater!

Archers (Swindon) once made a cask lager. It was a bit lively, but went down a treat. Many micro breweries in the UK now brew lagers, which are very good, but you are spot on in your assertion about ale. That said, it's not to everyone's taste, especially mine when I was 16 & 'hard' although germany like belgium have some interesting trappist style beers and wheat beers also.
