It does my head in. Your reading through a thread, getting into the discussion, when you reach a post where the poster is writing in a language unknown, and you've got to stop and work out what the poster is trying to say.
A brief example:
"Dont think it has nowt to do wit auto box...... If i turned rite i had no problem.i tink if u throw off the ht + lt leads 4 nu ones dat shud sort prob.;)"
Before anyone starts and has a go at me - Ok, maybe my spelling isn't the best, English wasn't my strongest subject at school, and I'm not an old timer either.
It's not that difficult, is it?

EFA and yes agree, fortunately it's not generally tolerated on P&P.A brief example:
"Dont think it has nowt to do wit auto box...... If i turned rite i had no problem.i tink if u throw off the ht + lt leads 4 nu ones dat shud sort prob.;)"

A few years ago when texting was expensive on a mobile, I can understand that txt speak would get you a few more words in one message.
It's different now. You get pretty much unlimited texts and predictive texting so there is less reason to use it.
My god kids and a few youngsters are on my facebook friends list, and I don't think that they've once completed a sentence without using text speak. This despite using keyboard.
It makes them feel cool, which I suppose is better than them smoking or dabbling with drugs. The worrying thing is, women in their 30's and 40's are now doing it to look cool to their children.
