Satisfying Silences...
Discussion
OK so following on from the other thread, what about satisfying silences? For me, its...
The total and utter deafening silence at sunrise on a windless day as the sun comes up over the Grand Canyon at Mather Point, thought I'd gone deaf or something
The moment you turn the engine off on a yacht and you are under sail power alone
The half second of very scary silence when a 12' skiff dinghy gets airborne
Pulling the cable release on a glider
Turning of the alarm becasue it's the weekend and you forgot to un-set it!

dunno, having tinnitus means there is no such thing
near silence though - waking up on a beech in the South of France, totally still air, almost silent except for the slightest hint of waves lapping on the shore, the only movement in sight was the top of the head of the blonde noshing me off.

The silence of old friends on a journey. You've already said everything that needs to be said. You are so comfortable with one another there's no need to talk for the sake of it.
The companionable silence after lovemaking with one's long term partner/wife for the same reasons as above.
