This is very very scary!
I get baliff letters every single day from agencies chasing the previous tenants of my apartment.
I have called them all to explain that mr Zhu has gone back to China (which he has). "OK sir, no problem".....then more letters.
Clearly this hasn't been thought out properly.
I'd like to think that this is an oversight of the potential consequences; I fear however that it is yet another step on the march to Labour's Police State.
For God's sake, not even the Police can engage in such activities.
I suspect that the main thinking here is regarding Council Tax collection....the govt's figures need propping up somehow eh!
How I regret not emigrating last year when I had the chance....the worthless £ has put paid to that now.....damn!

I watched that 'V for Vendetta' film the other night - I didn't realise it was actually a labout Party training film.
I'm sure all baliffs are bastions of good behaviour and we've nothing to worry about at all - my arse.
The Comic book writer wrote it expecting a conservative government to behave in tha manner. He got that wrong!!!!!!!I'm sure all baliffs are bastions of good behaviour and we've nothing to worry about at all - my arse.

Are our politicians so removed from the real world that they cannot see the abuse of power that will take place here?I mean, come on, I have encountered a few baliffs in my time and I am yet to meet one who I would describe as smart or honourable.
The article mentions a regulatory body.....even if this group has teeth, it will still be dealing with retrospective incidents. I fear abuse on a monumental scale here!

Article said "He was pursuing a parking fine owed by her son, who did not even live at the address."
That's a bit odd. Immediate family being raided to pay for their family member's parking fine?
Car registered to an address in a nice safe area, when the son lives in a dodgy one, to reduce the cost of insurance? That's a bit odd. Immediate family being raided to pay for their family member's parking fine?

Big if though to whether it would ever get voted in.

Lord Bach, a junior justice minister, has assured the House of Lords that any new powers will be implemented only after a consultation
I didn't see any mention of a vote......

Agreed.Problem is though that our politicians have no idea as to the real world potential abuse this bill could allow.

I get letters for previous owners of my home, the odd one I've opened is for owed debt.
So, if I just return these to sender, and get final notices etc, without realising, can they just come in?
Seems a bloody stupid law to try pass. If they just checked the electoral register and cross-referenced with insurance databases or mortgage lender they would find the info they needed to know anyway.
Good old Labour
The sooner they are out the better, meddling cretins!

Some restraint should be exercised, according to the “search and entry powers” guidelines. “If a person locks himself in their home, it might be reasonable to break open the door, but probably not to smash a hole in the wall,” it advises.
Might try that round my MP's house, see how he likes it.If these proposals become law then the politicians deserve the social unrest that will likely follow.
Baliffs WILL abuse these powers, people will get hurt (mainly householders trying to defend themselves) as lets face it, baliffs aren't exactly the cream of sociaety themselves are they.
The government criminals that put this forward prove how the britisdh government is slowley moving against its people little by little bit by bit.
They must have been reading Mein Kampf as this is how Hitler reccomends subjugating the populus. Rubbish bins that have their lids open more than a couple of inches result in a fine, baliffs (scum) possibly being given unreasonable rights, proposing inspectors checking your property and gardern to value it for council tax, the list goes on.
WAKE UP PEOPLE.
