Decent quality shoes

I was thinking of spending the xmas money the outlaws have kindly given me on a decent pair of shoes. Have looked at some Loakes and was wondering what the difference was between Goodyear Welted soles and Cemented Leather soles? There is a brief description on the site, but just wondered what the real world differences are?
Also, if anyone can recommend any alternatives for around the £100 mark, I'd be interested to hear about them.

Looks like there's little difference as the second shoe no longer comes with a rubber insert. Welted means a bit of rubber is stitched to the bottom of the upper part, then the sole is sewn and glued to that. 'Cemented' suggests to me that the sole is just glued on, in which case you probably want the welted.
Personally I prefer Church's shoes (except they're now owned by Prada
) but you could also try Barker, Cheaney and that guy who makes the pointy ones (Jefferey West).

Welted shoes have the soles stitched on, and thus the soles can be replaced ad inifinitum when they wear out. Cemented means they are glued and will probably have to be chucked out when worn through.
Always go for welted soles.
I've had some Loake Chelsea boots that are 10 years old and still looking great. They've been resoled maybe 3 times.

If these people have the shoes you are after they could save you a fair bit.
I got some Brasher shoes from them not long ago at half retail price and I'm very pleased with them. They only seem to have one style of Brasher in stock at the moment but plenty of other to choose from.
