I'm not an easily scared chap, and I would hate to be considered an alarmist. Nor do I read the Daily Mail. But I am genuinely worried about the direcion this country has taken over the last ten years. I don't mean, in this instance, the mismanagement of the economy and public services and the like, although there has been plenty of that.

Having seen many of the PH threads related to this subject I thought it might be an idea to make a consolidated list of the liberties that have been eroded or credibly threatened and the debasement of political discourse. I'll start off with these:

The politicisation of the police and the misuse of the Terrorism Act to suppress dissent:

The heckler at the Labour Party conference.
Damian Green.
Demonstrations within 1km of parliament.

Any more?

The replacement of the highly effective House of Lords with a toothless politically-appointed house of cronies.

The treaties of Rome, Maastricht and Lisbon

The indefinite continuation of the experimental 70mph speed limit.

PSCOs

Decriminalised parking enforcement

SORN (which means that you are now forced to declare your lawfulness, rather than it being assumed)

Which ever law it is that forces you to incriminate yourself if caught speeding.

How about creating a Wiki with links to BBC news/Daily Mail/Telegraph/Old PH threads so we can reminisce about how wound up we were at the time before we let it slide?

Because I am losing the liberty to show my nataionality! I was told the other day I was a racist for having St Georges flag on display by a neighbour. My neighbour is Asian and has only been in this country for 3 years!

Good. Becuase people can complain about these kind of things all they want, it changes nothing. Its only when we pander to their ridiculous demands that something has changed.

And no, not being sarcastic.
