Another one of those "Am I really asking this what am I letting myself in for?" threads.

I want a few thin woolen jumpers, the smart sort that can be worn for work with a shirt, not the sort Alan Titchmarsh wears

I don't want to be stifling hot nor do I want to be freezing cold,

I do want something that is good quality, will last, and can be washed if needed.

I assume I want wool not man-made, but other than that I have no clue beyond simply going to M&S and having a look.

What differentiates "quality" vs' "cheap fashion tat" with this kind of thing?

Merino Wool. Unbeatable. Decent stuff is around £100+ for a quality product.

I got a nice Pima cotton one for only £20 from GAP. Failing that, M&S have some cheap acrylic jumpers (under a tenner) that are fine for work that are perfectly comfy. Merino or Cashmere is the best if you want to pay though.

Or you could get some merino undershirts for about 1/3 the price of a jumper. Depends if you just want to warm up or wear a jumper for appearance as well as warmth.

Appearance else I'd go for thermal vests or something cheap/effective.

£100 is kind of, well, scary frankly when John Lewis seems to sell them for £39?

And £100 is small change vs. what the Paul Smith one that showed up on Google costs.. christ!
