Good to see the Catholic Church is embracing the modern world. Gays are apparently worse than cutting down the rainforest.

Which if you include the commonly held media logic that cutting down the rainforest/global warming is a greater threat than international terrorism means that the Pope says gays are worse than suicide bombers biggrin

Quite vocal out little ex-Hitler youth Pope. Fisrt it's about Gordon Clowns medaling now this!

Whatever next, he'll probably be critical of the youth of today and their lack of church goingness.

It's not surprising to see the number of people attending church is dwindling.

At least he has a clear view on the issue unlike the Church of England.

If the pope believes that being gay is incompatible with being a Christian he is right to make it clear.

I think he once got a good bumming and waited until he was pope to declare a religous war on the poo stabbers...........sly old goat.

N.B. Thinking about it, it was probably when he shat in the woods that the bumming occured.

The Catholic Church is a load of crap. They are full of views which are totally out of touch with the modern world!!

Mind you all religion is ste and causes more trouble than any other single thing in the world. It should be banned.

As clear as mud the Catholic Church opposes gay marriage. It teaches that while homosexuality is not sinful, homosexual acts are.

Sounds like double speak to me .

I agree. You might find his views abhorrent but at least the Catholic church doesn't change with the weather like the C of E.

Is this really news? Hasn't this been the view of mainstream catholicism for decades? I'm sure there are thousands of Catholics who are happily getting on with it without hating gay people.

Just because the Pope says something doesn't mean all the Catholics follow it.

Unfortunately it will be a green light many of the bigots to continue as they have been.

That's an unpleasant image, was it a bear angry with him for stealing his catch phrase that did it?

Most religions have a stance that gay sex is wrong. You'd be wrong to think that religions consider gays incompatible with being a believer however. It usually comes down to something along the lines of hating the sin but not the sinner. i.e. you can be gay and a Christian (for example) so long as you avoid gay sex.

The Catholic church asks of gays almost what they ask of their straight followers: sex should be for procreation only.

I have no opinion on being gay and religious, BTW, just pointing out the above. Not sure how Islaam views being gay. I think Judaism is similar in stance to the Christian religions...

Not sure.

But someone did tell me that if you go down to the woods today you're in for a big suprise.

And from the rumours i've been hearing the surprise will sting........for weeks!

The pope was bashing the gays not kiddy fiddlers.

I think the clergy will be just fine.

Couldn't agree more, I quite like Clarkson's take on the church of England and why it should as an example to the world disestablish itself:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnist...

I think that the Popes comments are really intended for the developing world. The CoE have shown that if you start embracing western values then the west just ignores you and the developing world starts hating you/leaving your church.
