TV problem, Anyone help?

Hi all, we have a 42" Hitachi LCD HD tv, which will power up fine, with both picture and sound, after 1-2 minutes the picture will vanish, leaving a blank screen, but the sound continues to erm.. sound.

Has anyone had any experience with this tv? Would it be better off in a skip, or is there an easy fix?

Try some percussive engineering, it sounds like a dry joint.

I had the same problem with a Sony TV - actually there is a post on here about it, from aaaaages ago. As said earlier, suspect it is dry joints (some solder is cracked).



PS: I have a soldering iron if you need to fix it before Christmas.

Cheers, is this a pretty simple thing to do? I have a soldering iron somewhere, so this may be the perfect excuse not to partake in christmas.

Providing you have a steady hand and fine point on your soldering iron. You may also need a magnifying glass, depending on the size of the board. Having said that it is easy, I only tackled a hifi after the repair guy had shown me what to do when he repaired my TV.

Take the back off, re-seat as many connections as possible and plug in and retry.
Worked on my CRT Philips TV I asked for advice on pistonheads and a bit of fiddling later saved me >£400 and a trip to the council tip.
My TV is still going great guns.

If you shine a very bright light onto the screen is theere any sign of the picture?

Did it fail straight off or was there a period of flickering/colour change?

LCDs are backlit with a fluorescent tube. Common problems are tube failure and the power supply to the tube failing - they use a very high voltage driver - do not piss about with them with power to the unit.
