Legal Age-Renting and Buying property?

Can anybody please inform me of the legal age for renting and buying property?

I'm currently 16 and looking at moving out in the new year, just started to look at options now and need to know what options i've got open to me.

Well I rented at 16, think I had a guarantor though.

I would expect that any form of rental or purchase of property would be initially governed by contract law. A minor (i.e.anyone under the age of 18) cannot legally enter a contract. They would need a parent or a guardian to sign on their behalf.

If you find a decent landlord who doesn't have their head up their arse you should be okay.

Agencies on the other hand - 'so you haven't rented before...why don't you have any references?'

How can I work around direct debits, as far as i'm aware i'm not allowed to set them up until i reach 18?

Well i was doing an aprenticeship but got made reduntant so now im doing college for 3 weeks then 3 weeks spare. Good job i saved up a good bit of money before i got finished. How much are you earning if you dont mind me asking? I was on about £140 at college and then £170 on site.

Crikey! I'm 16 and I couldn't even entertain moving out yet. Not only would my savings be gone pretty damn quickly, I don;t earn enough However, I am still in 6th Form, so I have an excuse.

the current shower of ste i'm renting via are just as stupid

they got a tad upset when i sent them a letter stating i would not be providing guarantor details as at 30 i'm way past having mummy and daddy covering my commitments. <-- put like that i wonder why they got upset

30 & 27 both in well paid secure jobs, best part of £1500 cash bond, and very good credit histories and they still insisted on this - why - because it's their 'standard way of doing things'

currently have an ongoing battle about their quaterly 'inspections' that were not mentioned in the contract - aparently i'm unreasonable to expect things that will (regularly) happen being in the contract - seriously had they said prior to signing or had it been in the contract at the start i'd have told them to remove it or shove the property.. again at 30 i'm not entertaining a regular 'by your beds' inspection - i left that kind of st behind when i left home!

some may think i'm unreasonable or confrontational - never had an issue with a previous agency, and i hate stupid policys and jobsworths!
