HDTV which one?

Got around 400-600 to spend for a new tv, it has to be full 1080p and I'd like around 40" screen size.

Looking at this

I know absolutely nothing about TV's.

However, one thing that I have learnt from PH is that Samsung televisions are the very spawn of the Devil and that one should not allow such a thing within a mile of one's living room.

Someone with a vast knowledge of all things televisual will be along momentarily to explain why this is so.

As for me, I'm off to my mum's now for Christmas lunch.

The px series are HD ready i.e. 720p.

You need a pz for 1080p.

Samsung make fantastic LCDs. I've had a 32" 100hz model since last Feb and it still gives a better picture than alot of current models. Go for the Samsung

I they didn't do that they would have gone bust since the TVs were obviously too expensive. You should have taken a pay cut to keep the production in the UK

Fair enough, I missed that, but then, I am of the opinion that people read FAR too much into the actual resolution of the thing, and less about the actual picture quality. Its almost like comparing a nippy car that feels really quick to a really quick car that doesnt feel quick at all

I walked into Comet the other day and stood back from the TV display and, with an open mind, selected the three screens that looked to have the best picture.

2 were Samsung.

The other was Pioneer but cost 3 times as much.

Well I ordered the Panasonic TH42PX80B from Dixons today and with their 10% discount between 3PM & 6PM it came to £449.99 delivered.
The Christmas day code has expired but you can still use the MIRROR50 code to get £50 off a £500 spend (add a battery to take it over £500) but that code finishes end of play today so you better hurry.
Having seen these Panasonics in the shops the picture is superb and pretty much only bettered by expensive Pioneers.
Don't believe me though check out What Hifi & Video reviews of it.
