Buying a shower - What do you think?

It has just dawned on me that the DIY roof dormer extension I have been building for the last 18 months is near completion!
The space includes a new(second)bathroom and my first thought was to fit a 10.5Kw electric shower as in the original bathroom downstairs.
However, we changed from conventional boiler to Combi a few years ago and it is located right next door to the new bathroom so warm up time should be quick. Therefore I wanted to consider a non electric mixer type shower straight off the boiler H&C.
How do they compare with the electric ones and does anyone have experience of fitting a 'power shower' pump in line?
I'm wondering whether the 'draw' of the pump will overstress the boiler.
Bear in mind we're thinking budget stuff here no Dolphins or Bathstores - It'll be B&Q whilst the 15%is on!!

I fitted a Victorian style large rose headed brass shower with thermostatic mixer to the upstairs bath.
Simple gravity feed and boiler and tank are downstairs! Tank in loft!
Should have had at leat 1.5 meter head, but only got about 0.6m head.
It works OK. Rains more than blasts, but I and my son prefere it to the electic one downstairs.
By the way, the electric one is 9.6KW and has never been on full heat!
Can anybody stand it that hot on full heat? Even the wife only uses medium setting, I alwys turn it to low!

You don't need a pump with a combi boiler as you've got mains pressure hot water anyway. I've got a normal hot and cold mixer shower fed directly from mains cold and a combi boiler and it works fine - easily equivalent to a power shower (although I suppose this depends on how good your mains water pressure is in the first place).
You may not have a lot of choice in the matter anyway, unless you can guarantee that both showers won't be in use at the same time. A 11.5 kW shower can pull up to about 45 amps, and most houses only have a maximum of 100 amps mains supply (a lot only have 60 or 80 amp supplies). With two electric showers running at once you could run the risk of finishing your shower in the dark..

Just returned from the B&Q sale with a Gainsborough mono mixer, riser and head, the sort that can be concealed in the wall, all for 84 quid!
That means the plumbing part of the project will start in earnest next weekend.
