They must be pushing it at the mo, could have sworn I saw it in the schedules yesterday, and watched a bit of it earlier this afternoon.

No bad thing though. You can't beat a bit of Bigglesology at Christmas.

It was shown a couple of times over the past few days.

Although it's always worth watching, I always thinks it's a real shame that no one ever thought to make a film about any of the REAL raids some of the Mossie sqaudrons took part in - the raid on Amiens prison or the bombing of the Gestapo HQ in Copenhagen, for instance.

Maybe it's something someone like the Beeb should be looking at - along the lines of "The Greatest Raid Ever" (hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, of course).

It'd be great if they did something like that, just to show that it wasn't just the Americans who fought in the war...
I'd love to see a remake of the Battle of Britain.

No, that has already been done quite well. Many people these days probably think that the RAF's operations during WW2 consisted entirely of the Battle of Britain and the Dambusters' raid.

Some time and effort should be put into telling the public about some of the other spectacular operations the RAF (and the Royal Nay Fleet Air Arm as well) undertook. How about a recreation of the raid on Taranto - or the disasterous attack on the Scharnhorst, Prinz Eugen and the Gneisenau?
Or the Typhoon attacks at Falaise.
Or the failed attack on the Dortmund Ems canal.

I'm currently reading up on Bristol Blenheim operations. Extremely brave chaps who suiffered appaling casualties for over three years until better aircraft came along.

You clearly didn't watch his presentation of Operation Chariot then?

It was an excellent programme and showed that Clarkson can do humility and pride as well as his usual bombast. It was coupled with some pretty decent CGI and model work as well. So, why not do a similar on oen a famous RAF or FAA raid?

You're right, I didn't. I think he's a buffoon And I guess it's safe to say, I'm not a fan of his. I still think he shouldn't be allowed near anything serious. If you like him fine, he's NOT my cup of tea.

To make good telly there needs to be a lot of casualties... a war film that is essentially - we flew there, executed a mission perfectly and flew back again would not be good box office.

More fool you for buying the stereoype. JC's father-in-law won the VC. But you didn't know that of course. Take JC away from cars and he's an excellent, well-informed and intelligent presenter - when he's not having to fight off leftie idiots of course...

Are you seriously saying I should like JC and his style because his Father in Law won a VC? Really? Look, I don't like his style, it's my choice, I didn't buy a stereotype, I've seen the man on enough TV and read his columns.

People not liking him doesn't make them left-wing.

Can't argue with that, so I won't. It's a personal desire for the BoB remake, just because I quite like the film...

There are so many great deeds undertaken during the war and I do agree that more should be done to highlight that.

The Amiens raid would make good TV then, daring and caualties.

Mossie Pathfinder and low level attack missions were some of the very best the RAF carried out over the war.

Trivia: the dambuster missions were going to be Mossie squadrens but the bombs bounced and knocked the tails off them! they were also being trialled to sink U boats with bouncing bombs, after this idea failed the fitted some Mossies with Bofors (sp?) canons which literally almost stopped the plane with the re-coil!

I love Mosquitos cloud9

It really is worth finding time to catch repeats of his two documentaries, The Victoria Cross: For Valour and Greatest Raid of All Time.

They're not in the 'Clarkson Style' of Top Gear and a lot of his columns.

On a similar note it's nice to see a film showing that it wasn't just the English that fought in the war. The film is one of the few to show a turban wearing Sikh pilot in the RAF.

Interweb says: "Of the 24 Indian pilots who had volunteered to serve with the Royal Air Force in Britain (in WWII) , six did not measure up to standard and were assigned other general duties. Of the 18 who then flew with the RAF, seven were selected as fighter pilots, two of them, Ranjan Dutt and Mohinder Singh Pujji, distinguishing themselves."
