TXT Messages in the States

Hi,

Met a girl, we exchanged numbers, etc but i can't figure out if we need a prefix infront of the number. At the moment we are having to use facebook to keep in touch and it's becoming a little annoying.

I have an english phone on o2, she obv has some american crap and i'm dumb with this stuff!

If i wanted to text her what prefix will i need infront of her phone number?

Advice appreciated.

if you are using a uk mobile (regardless where you actually are) you need to use the full international number.

I never had to do that last time I was out there to send texts to friends back home here. Just had 0044 (and skip the initial 0) on my numbers, same as in the rest of europe.

PS: It's going to cost you a bloody fortune, if you've both got internet access anyway, just use Skype to talk to each other. It's free!

Well you just add +1 to the beginning then take off the zero.

Just get her to save the number that comes in then.

i've used my mobile in France, Finland and the US this year and have not had to change anything. just use my contacts on the mobile as per normal. both for texts and phone calls.

why then do other's have to add the international dialing numbers?

just thought i would ask.

Yep! If you are on a US phone and want to call a UK mobile it's +44 then the number without the 0 before the 7.

out of the USA to the UK is 01144.Then you drop the zero(0) from our code.IE (0)161

Not sure if it's still the case, but not many years ago it was very hit and miss as to whether you could text between US and UK mobiles. It wasn't related to getting the number right, just some US networks would not work with rest of the world SMS messages in either direction.
