Anybody like to place a bet? 2 years? 3? comunity service?
Basically doormen won't let him in a pub, so he throws a bottle in. Bottle smashes and injures a womans neck. She dies.
How f
king pointless. What an utter utter waste. As far as I am concerened he should get life and it should mean life. It matters nought to me that he didnt mean to kill her. Fact is she is dead and aint coming back.

Hardly a forseeable outcome though?Basically doormen won't let him in a pub, so he throws a bottle in. Bottle smashes and injures a womans neck. She dies.

Hardly a foreseeable outcome though?Basically doormen won't let him in a pub, so he throws a bottle in. Bottle smashes and injures a womans neck. She dies.

"I didn't know that would happen" is not really a good excuse.

Yeah but she is still dead, by him."I didn't know that would happen" is not really a good excuse.
If he had fired a gun into a crowd, then I would be baying for blood, however, I would argue that a thrown bottle is not in itself a deadly weapon NORMALLY.
He may have wanted to injure someone, or make a mess, but I doubt that he was trying to kill her.

Its entirly possble that somebody would get injured by a flying bottle but he didnt care either way did he. I dont care if he gets life.

I'm sure that he did not want to kill anyone, whatever his reasoning behind it, be it to cause a disturbance, to hurt someone or just to hear the sound of smashing glass the fact of the matter is that he killed that woman.
He'll be charged with manslaughter, which in the circumstances is correct. As for what he ultimately 'gets' ... well that will be down to which judge he gets and how good his defence team are.

But a reasonable sentence should be enforced. If would hopefully act as a deterrent as well as the youth being vindicated and hopefully reformed.

I think that it also depends on the evidence - it is in my opinion very different throwing a bottle into a crowd, than it is throwing a bottle directly at someone's face/neck if you know what I mean? But a reasonable sentence should be enforced. You also need to consider the size of the bottle - you would expect very different results from a full bottle of red, or an empty bottle of Corona.
Still, a horrendous thing to happen to anyone (and I've been behind a bar with a drunk nutter throwing glasses at the optics with glass raining down on me).
I think manslaughter would be appropriate and I'm sure that it fits closest with that definition (though I don't know what the manslaughter legal definition is)
He still needs to be held accountable for his actions. He may not have intended to kill but the fact of the matter is he threw a bottle into a crowded public house after being refused entry, a petulant act akin to a toddler having a tantrum when things have not gone his way.
The offender needs to know that this is not how we behave in a grown up society and his ilk need that example setting. All too often we see the same thing in town centres up and down the country, the difference is that this time someone has paid the ultimate price.
he shouldn't be tried for murder IMO manslaughter is appropriate, but, he does need to be severely punished.

It strikes a chord with me does this.
As it was somebody just attacking me with a just a bottle that left me in a situation where I very nearly could have bled to death, and with permanent scarring.
It may 'only' be a glass bottle, but it is still a very deadly weapon.
I do agree however, that it does depend on the circumstances, I.E. whether it was thrown at the building, or at the Doorman/the young lady/whatever.

First of all I agree with most here, life for the little focker. However on recent threads comenting on some motorist doing something equally stupid, this one springs to mind:

there was a lot of bs excuses & support put forward by some PHers. So can anyone explain the difference?
