Oxford St shopping & parking

Hi All,

Going shopping on Oxford street tomorrow, is it free parking on the streets ?

Any thoughts on best streets to park on around there ?

It'll be anywhere you can find a space! You should be able to find somewhere behind Edgware road on the west side. Or Selfridges carpark is resonably priced and good

I always go to Selfridges Car Park, can't be bothered to mess about.

I park up Marylebone high street and walk 5mins to oxford st

Usually down one of the mews roads, loads of parking down there and free.

What are the rules with parking on the street? I mean free where you would normally pay for a spot ?

Meter and pay and display bays should be free along with single yellows although mind where yellow lines go up onto the kerbs. Get there early and try just north of Oxford St, Howland St onto Cavendish St or side streets off of them.

Easier to get away as well, assuming your coming from the North/West.

On second thoughts, perhaps not too early, think most of the larger stores don't open till 12.00, although there will always be somewhere open for a bit of brekky!

By the side of Hyde Park (near Marble Arch) is free on Sundays. That's about a five minute walk to Oxford Street (depending on where exactly you park obviously).

Just don't park in residential parking as you'll get towed.

Lots of spaces around Marylebone (north of Oxford St).

Oh - and rather you than me - I escaped London for the country until Monday

Park Lane NCP underground garage. Go down Park Lane around Hyde Park Corner and come back up again to the entrance. Or use the Hilton Hotel underground car park.

I park on Belgrave Square (outside the c-zone) and walk or get the bus. Park outside the Turkish Embassy and you get a free armed guard - one of our BiB. I always chat to them and they're generally very enthusiastic about the Elise.

Meters are free all day, however, if it's an out of order meter you CANNOT park there.
Otherwise single yellows only.
Watch for resident bays, they're often not clearly marked.

Personally, I do one circuit of Wigmore St & Duke St.
Often there is a single yellow space on Gray's Yard.
If one round yields no free parking I leave it in Selfridges.

Not all Westminster on-street parking is free on Sundays, it depends on the council / landlord. Wherever you park check the meter or pay & display machine to confirm - some starts at noon (after church and when the shops open !)

Those streets between Pall Mall and south of Piccadilly ( St James sq etc) are certainly free all day Sunday. 5 or 10 min Walk up Bond St to Oxford St.
