Went into Comet and Currys to suss out a radio gizmo for my wifes new ipod Nano.
Thought I would get one of the 32" LCD Sony tellies that are on offer. Both places told me that they have sold out and it will be 6 weeks until new stock arrives.
I wonder if that means that furthr reductions are likely on some of the larger models? I would prefer to get a 37" or 40" LCD, but really don't want a crappy cheap model, I want a good cheap model.

Those £300 Sonys are their cheapest low quality flat panels. Crap contrast, nasty looking pics, terrible blacks ie someone in a dark suit and you can't see the collar or pockets, just a black blob.
I believe that Sony do 4 qualities of flat panels in 32" ranging from £500 (pre-sale) to nearly £2000.
Sorry but I am fussy about my Tellys and my 20 year old 20" Sanyo CRT has the best pic that I have ever seen. Cost over £400 back in 1988 tho'.

I know jack about tellys, and looking at them instore always confuses me as the picture quality on some are so poor you have to assume that they aren't connected up properly, bit like some of their staff...

Mate bought a 32" Bravia last Christmas for around £400. We sat down and watched Bourne Ultimatum off a decent DVD player and I found it almost unwatchable, but I work in TV so I am very fussy.
I did some research through a mate that sets up Home Theatre Systems and thus found out the truth. Flat panels, even the expensive ones, are nowhere near the quality of a good CRT, yet!
Thing is you cannot buy a big CRT anymore so when my Philips and Sanyo go, I will be forced to join the rest of the TV buying public.

You do need to be careful, I bought my Sony Bravia about 18 months ago, and it was confusing then...I believe that Sony do 4 qualities of flat panels in 32" ranging from £500 (pre-sale) to nearly £2000.

Mine is the 32inch "V" series, there is also an "S" series which is lower spec poor contrast etc... the sainsburys advert shows a V Series, but that may be just an error on the advert
Very happy with my V series, there is a W series which is suppoed to be even better...

I bought one of these cheap Sonys at JL for £329.00 because I am desperately poor at the moment and my TV packed in and the reviews are generally favourable.
I think it's worth remembering, these TV's are at the budget end of the market and therefore expectations should be set accordingly.
You are compare a £300.00 cheapo set with a £1500.00 Panny or Pioneer etc, etc.
Next year, when I've got a few extra shillings, I will probably buy a Panny and move the Sony to the Bedroom.

Just be aware that a lot of the tat (not all mind) that has suddenly appeared in supermarkets and other shops as "sale" items have infact been bought in just for that, a sale and are infact cheap crap being sold at a high price compared to what they bought it for.
