Which sleeping bag should I buy?

Over to you in PH land, I want something cheapish (circa £20) that's 3 season and fairly durable. Would be more comfortable with a branded bag as the Colemans sleeping bags I've had in the past have been very good.
I'm not a savy as many of you when it comes to hunting down online bargains, or shop based as I cant be arsed to go trudging round the shops.

At that budget, eBay is probably your friend.

Make sure that you get something with a box rather than stitched-through construction to avoid heat loss through cold spots.

Have no idea re sleeping bags, I always go by the adage of "You get what you pay for!"

Sounds like a trip to Millets should be your first port of call.

There are a couple from Halford for around that price, but doubtful if they are 3 season, they only say early spring to autumn.

I'd spend a bit more and get one from blacks.

Would suggest a trip to GO Outdoors or possibly Decathalon. Mine was from GO Outdoors and bleddy brill for the money. Also good that you can see them all out of the sacks / compare packed size and weight.

Ok, what exactly are you going to be using the bag for?

Once that has been established, advice can be better placed.

(ie you're not gonna do well on the North Face of Ben Nevis in a £20 bag!)

Really depends on what you are doing. If you're wild camping then £20 wont get you a decent 3 season bag - not by a very very long shot,

If it's for your caravan you might be OK.

I'm not planning on going up Ben Nevis - occassional use (a few times a year) and it coul be in any temperature so three season should cover me. I got a good deal at Blacks on my last Colemans bag £20 for a 3 season a couple of years ago. Obviously everything is worth infinitely more these days so I'll have to pay £60 for the same thing now

These are OK for the money in terms of construction and warmth - but feel like a weird tropical plant next to your skin.

They start from circa £30-40ish depending in where you shop.

there is one just down the road in Wolverhampton and I can pick up a fleece and jacket while I'm there too.
It's really only for occassional use so the best bang for my buck woul be appreciated - say upto £30

I've been comfy in minus -5°C without a rollmat or anything underneath.

They are bulky and heavy though but by the sounds of it you wont be trekking for days carrying it.

Western Mountaineering make excellent bags. Just remember to buy a bag with a comfort rating within the expected range. There's no point getting a bag and then discovering on the first night it's a billion degrees too warm or too cold.

If weight and packsize are a consideration, remember that down bags are lighter and have a small packsize than synthetic equivalents but down can get ruined by excessive moisture where synthetics are more resilient.
