Been assaulted and need some advise
Discussion
On Saturday night me and two friends where beaten up completely unprovoked buy a group of 7 pissed up d
heads. We got off lightly as they had already kicked the s
t of some other guy and the police had been called so they scarped. I got punched in the face three times and now my teeth don't fit together and it's painful to eat. I also have two broken teeth. So I now have to have my teeth fixed and I'm going to be the one picking up the bill as my dentist doesn't do NHS. I think this is a little unfair as I didn't do anything to warrant being smacked in the face. I was just in the wrong place, wrong time waiting to get a taxi home. I have a crime number. But what do I need to do next to get my teeth paid for, with out me having to stump up the cash?

take the guy who damaged your teeth to court. He's the one who would pay if found guilty - nobody else.

He received some compensation for loss of earnings.
I would guess the CAB would be your best bet though

Not true. The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) will compensate you according to their scale of awards. Ask the person handling your case to put them in touch. They will ask your dentist for a report on your injuries including the cost of treatment.
Takes a long time to get the compensation though and it doesn't always cover the full cost.
(You should still be asking the court to make the scrotes pay as well.)
I hate it when people sue for their coffee being to hot, but we have a compensation culture in this country, and the OP's situation is much more deserving than the temperature of a drink. What are the chances of taking the 'assaulter' to court, im guessing the fee's, even if you won, would be more than the money you get from the criminal?
If a 'celebrity' can sue for their photo being in a magazine, why you can't you sue someone that does physical damage to you?

Sorry to hear about the assault, it seems to be a common happening in areas in and around Taxi ranks where you get a large gathering of people after a night on the bottle.

I recently raised the issue at a meeting. In short the Hackney association wanted cab drivers to fork out approx £500 per year to pay for taxi marshalls. My argument is these assaults accur in and around taxi ranks and are a civil matter so why should I pay extra for security when my taxes that contribute towards policing are not being used to their fullest. The local Gazette took up the story and it made the front page thankfully to help bring the issue of common assaults on the innocent passer by to the fore.
Wether it helps I'm not sure but I will be keeping a log of all assaults in that area and if need be will organise a demonstration to bring more notice to the problem. I urge you to contact your local press and try to do the same otherwise these miscreants will carry on getting away with it. On the good news I have helped put away such a miscreant over Christmas for two assaults a few weeks back. one on innocent people and one on a fellow cabbie. All the Best.

At a £1 a week (if you're really lucky), following their few hours on the naughty step and told not to do it again
For example, there is an England footballer currently helping police with their enquires into an assault.
For what its worth here is what I would do in your situation.
Wait untill scrotes are found guilty in the criminal court and then hit them with a county court summons for the cost of your dental treatment (on line, very simple) as the crimminal court is a "higher" court that the civil they can have no defence. Then pursue then via court baliffs.
Sorry to here of your troubles. All the best

)CICB will,as stated above, eventually recompense you. The sooner you contact them the better as they have a somewhat arbitrary system (X quid for loss of an arm etc) Scars are good! I got £10000 15 years ago for a split lip because the lovely doctor measured the inside as well as the outside.
A few photogaphs while it's at its most dramatic can come in handy as you'll have healed up by the time any action against your assailants takes place.
It's probably not fair to pad out the swelling with cotton wool and get your girlfriend to extend the discolouration though....
Take them for everything you can get, nothing can compensate for the wariness and reluctance to go to places you previously didn't give a thought to.
It took me at least two years before I adjusted.
Hope you put it behind you quickly. The world is full of pricks.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'll see how the CICA can help tomorrow. What I was finding was if you did a google search all you got was a load of no win no fee websites. Which I'm not interested in. All I want to do is get my teeth back to normal as it's not very nice, when you can't eat your food proparly.
The police have no idea who the group was. So I'm not going to be able to take them to court. All I'm hoping on is one day there going to get a right good kicking in the same situation as I was in. It is a real shame that these a
holes get to walk the streets. But like I said earlier it wasn't anywhere near as bad as it could have been. But it would have been nice if all the by standers would have gang up on the group and given them some of the same. But everyone just got out of the way and watched.

I don't really have any big cuts. The only one I've got is only 1.5cm long on the bottom of my jaw. So it's not very impressive. I did get a call from a lady asking if I could come and have some pictures taken of my injuries. But I declined, as I was going to have drive miles just to get a picture taken of a 1.5cm cut and two broken/chipped teeth. The injuries aren't very spectacular.
