Why get surprised .Last year our MP announced his retirement at the next election . Imediately the local Labour party announced that his replacement would be FEMALE -not the best candidate, but the best FEMALE .

"It is important that the fire service attracts more women and ethnic minorities so that it can work more effectively in partnership with local authorities and other organisations to meet the needs of local people."
Personally, if my house is on fire or I'm trapped in a crashed vehicle, I won't care if the I just want someone who is well trained & motivated and will do the best possible job and not someone who is there to meet some politically-correct quota.

The fire service needs to be representative of the area it serves.
No, the fire service needs to be able to do the job as well as it possibly can, like you said Puddenchucker, regardless of race/colour/creed/sex.What a cock:

Personal Statement:
I spent a number of years working for BBC television and then the Open University working on distance learning courses in Technology.

As a county councillor I have supported local schools and campaigned successfully for a new fire station for Woburn and a bypass for Ridgmont.
