it's hollywood been let loose on the idiots who claim to have been probed by aliens, and believe that they all have trapped emotional spirits...

Had a bike accident, which at the time I couldn't remember.
My life didn't flash before my eyes, but when the memory of the event returned, I could recall it in super slow motion, almost frame by frame if you will?
I suppose that if you have the time to think about your life, in the same sort of circumstances, the same effect might take place?

As for what causes it, haven't got a bloody clue. Presumably adrenaline? I walked off on a broken leg.

I've had a couple of scary moments when I have thought "So this is how it ends" mainly in overturning cars but I only ever thought of the future I'd miss, never the past!

I've had time slow down, and different thoughts. It's a strange feeling - but you somehow believe that will be 'it'. Luckily it wasn't.

Nearly being swept out to sea by a rip current while swimming off Myritosa beach, Corfu a few years back.

Amazing how super fast your brain seems to work. Myraid of thoughts, etc. Rush of thoughts about events over one's life.

Curiously enough, I had the same thing happen on Pelekas beach Corfu. I honestly thought my time was up. I decided I wasn't ready, and swam faster and harder than I ever had in my life. Took me a long time. When I thought I was in close enough to stand up, I tried, and promptly went under and got a mouthfull. Then panic really kicked in !
Don't mix alcohol and swimming........

Fell of a rock climb - not very high so still here - as I was pulling out some slack to clip into the second piece of gear. Annoyingly it was an easy climb about 5 grades lower than I could climb.

Fell, thought thank god the first piece was bomb-proof. Watched in mild surprise as it bounced out in front of my eyes, and then had sinking feeling that it was going to hurt. Landed hard, rolled over backward and then rolled down a scree slope going arse over tit before finally stopping. .

Funny how shock hits you and you suddenly get really cold regardless of how warm it is. Had pins and needles running up my arms, torn ligaments in my ankle, and a massively lacerated back - not deep or serious, just lots of it. Air ambulance ended up being called (due to pins and needles) and I was whisked off to Chessy A&E.

No flash of life in front of my eyes, no calm, no slowing of time. Just surprise and then the oh st this is going to hurt, before the impact and then that fraction of a second where you think you've got away with because your nervous system hasn't caught up with events yet.

Wear a helmet kids!

Yep.

The whole world went into a kind of dreamy slow motion. I couldn't speak, no matter how hard I tried. I couldn't struggle. I couldn't fight back.
Then the words "I will" tumbled from my lips and I knew from that moment, that it was all over.

It depends on what’s happening and how much time there is. Never had the life replay, but if you have time then you may review your life a bit.

In a fast event, time seems to slow down. I recall seeing a 5 series BMW turning right in front of me as I crossed a green traffic light. Trying to swerve around the front of it, as to go around the back would have taken me into other oncoming traffic.

Impact, pain too brief to register properly as I went over the bars and through the screen.

Bonnet beneath me, then road behind me and my bike. Then sky, car roof, sky, car boot, sky, road, sky, road, sky. The thought that this is going to hurt when it stops.

Impact. Not stars, but silver shimmering, a bit like the picture on a TV when it’s not tuned to any channel.

An overwhelming desire to get up and kill the driver, but body not answering commands. In and out of consciousness

The Police later said I had moved his engine 18” back in the chassis. I nearly bled to death internally.

On another, earlier occasion, I injured myself. Stupid thing to do, but I managed to inject myself with several CC of air. I had heard that this was fatal and there was nothing that could be done to undo the problem.

Rather than seeking medical assistance, I accepted the fact that I was going to die in the next few hours when it reached somewhere that caused a problem.

A feeling of incredible peace came over me when I accepted that I was about to die. There was time to review my life, but not any passing before my eyes.

The fact that I wasn’t about to die is irrelevant. I believed I was. It has left me without fear of death. If you embrace it then it isn’t anything to fear.

What is scary is long drawn out suffering like some terminal illnesses.

Some of the beaches on the West coast of Corfu are notorious for rip tides. It doesn't surprise me that you had problems at Pelekas.

What was amazing is that I was only in water just over 4 feet deep! Despite posessing rather good aerobic fitness, i'm only a slightly built chap and not a strong swimmer.

Was saved by my missus who's quite a big curvy lass. I believe her additional body weight prevented us from being swept out. smile

My brain just worked so incredibly fast. In the space of what was probably no longer than a minute (felt MUCH longer) I had so many thoughts.

Thought about my car, remembered my first shag, family, friends, colleagues at work. All sorts of weird stuff. But it came so thick and fast. Like the brain running at 10 times normal speed.
