Do New Ipods Sound Better ?

Looking for an excuse to replace my aging 3G Ipod.

Do the latest generation Ipod's sound any better or is the only improvement the capacity/screen/interface ?

Got a New nano for xmas. Screen is crystal.

Listening to music on the iPod versus my old creative or my sony system at home, the iPod sounds much better. You get much more depth and hear a wide range.

Try some new headphones - they really do make the world of difference. I got some Sennheiser CX-500's for Christmas and the difference between them and the crappy Apple ones are like night and day.

Yep, also got some Sennheiser in-ear headphones & there is a huge difference from the standard Apple ones. Wasn't the CX-500's that I got, can't remember the model number but they were under £40.

I've just bought myself a new iPod. Didn't even bother with the original headphones (still in the wrapper!) but have some Sony MDR-EX*insert number, possibly 17* and they are champion On the lookout for a new set though...

+1 for the sennheiser I have CX500 and for an in ear headphone is the best I have had...

Sennheiser (as far as i know) only make headphones so figures they'd be pretty good at it, watch out if buying from "The Bay" though as a lot of fakes around...

71 - had them on my iPod Touch until I left it on the train

They're good but I have to say the CX-500's are in a different class again. About £40 I think

Yes, thanks guys, I know the Apple earphones are a bit ropey and I already have nice pairs of both Sennheiser cans and in ear jobbies, but that doesn't answer my question, will a new Ipod make nicer noises than my old one ?

I'm not sure if they do or not my iphone compared to my ipod video no noticable difference, I assume they use better/newer technology but this may in fact make it worse, I guess best thing is to take your preferred headphones with you and your old pod and compare the 2?

The truth is always found by listening for yourself.

I've got a 5th gen iPod video and a 1gig Shuffle. The Shuffle absolutely whups the video iPod for sound quality on the same phones (Sennheiser MX500s). But then putting those same phones onto my old Sony NetMD player showed the Sony sounded better.

And I wish I'd never connected the iPod up to the Stax Electrostatics. Pair of immaculate headphones that highlighted the utterly bland and non-descript sound quality of the iPod.

I have a 3g i hardly use any more because it keeps losing the language/date/settings and so on. Are you getting the same thing? I'm on my 2nd hard drive and 2nd battery. I now use my N95 instead as I walk a lot and jostling the hard drive around was making it skip.

The iPod Touch looks to be the best of apples mobile products at the moment.

No, but the battery life is a fraction of what it was and loses charge quickly when unused and the hard drive appears to be on the way out. I know I can replace both but a shiney new toy appeals more !

Sorry to hijack the thread a tad, but I was wondering - does anyone know why the old Classic had 160 GB, but you can only buy a new Classic in a 120 GB size now? Does that have anything to do with sound quality? Or software reliability?

I'd say if you want good sound quality on the move get a Sony. They really do make iPods sound horrible and sterile.

MP3s are an abomination where sound quality is involved, but if you must then I would concurr with the above.
