PH - conversation stopper or starter.

In company I find myself saying 'today on PH there was this post about....' Some people look sideways at me and I have to explain, others say, yes I read that, and the conversation flows. . Anyone else do this.

I never, ever mention anything about anything I have done or read on a forum to my non-internet enabled friends. It takes 25 minutes to explain what a forum is and another 25 minutes trying to persuade them you're not some kind of motoring internerd geek.

I have taken to saying " One of my forums" Rather than Letting people know i spend all my time here!

Far too many of my conversations start with "We were having a chat on one of my forums and..."

I have to limit myself to only 2 mentions of PH a day or per group of friends.

If I remember something else I have to mention I have to resort to "I read on the internet ------"

every now and then, though, you meet someone at a random party and mention PH and you find out they're massive car nuts and read it every day, even if they don't post.

On a side topic I enjoy when I meet a new friend or partner seeing how long it takes them to work out how much of a geek I am, I dont look your typical geek (6,3, skinhead, tattoos etc) so when they find out its often quite a shock for them...

I generally only ever mention PH to people who I know are regulars and discuss funny threads with the OH (The Trig) quite often.

Otherwise you get strange looks and people move their children away from you!

A good example of this is a new work colleague started at my company and parked his car on the drive. I put an internal email around asking who owned the M3 CSL on the drive (and could I have a go).

Turns out its the new work colleague and we got talking and one conflab led to another and before you know it tunnel running came up which inevitably led to aahh, your on PH...

I'll mention interesting car related stuff to mates and the GF, a couple of mates have ended up signing up after I've shared some interesting topics or readers cars with them.
