Sitting in our front room when we hear a bang from the front door, I go to investigate in time to see a MG ZR go burning off down the road... We're semi rural so nothing else around.

Come back in and tell the wife it's nothing (don't want her getting worried) but now thinking should probably call the cops.

We have a porch door that is always left on the bottom latch, it was this that banged as they pushed to get in, once in they have another door to get through as well but you can't see this from outside.

I'm thinking they were after the 6 series on the drive and wanted to see if the keys were close by.

It's not the first time for us, we were broken into about three years ago and an M3 I had was stolen, then some Chavs tried to steal our Land Rover about a year ago but my wife saw them and chased them away (she went mental, started screaming "F..K OFF!" and they bolted"!).

Ah well, just one of those things I guess...

Get Mr Rottweiler? Mr Chav, when meeting Mr Rottie, tends to meet Mr Pain...

Would it help to have a secure and attached garage? Might be a good idea to have decoy BMW keys hanging near the door so they set off the alarm even if they think they succeeded in lifting the keys.

Why are they chavs? Surely they are just thieves.

Sorry to hear that. But all too common now these days.

Personally I think its only a matter of time before we see people taking 'direct' action against these vermin.

Not a Rottie, but my Puppy is just getting her adult teeth and they are pretty impressive. Had my doors 'tested' a few times and there is nothing better than seeing some would-be-burglar running scared! My parents had a well trained setter many years ago, not the best guard dogs but when trained the phrase "get them" would trigger a snarling frenzy.... as the local Gypo's discovered once.... never came back. They did manage to do 80% of the houses in the street though!

Maybe I am being cynical (even paranoid) but I would expect to see them return within 48 hours. May be worth asking the rozzers if they have any CCTV cameras you can borrow. I know it sounds unlikely, but the Police around Huddersfield were targeting things like this. Better still, "lose" it at a friends house for a week or so if you can.

Move the car for a while.

Keep a baseball bat nearby. And a ball, so you can justify its location and use to the hand wringing idiots.

Had kids discussing whether to bottle my Exige earlier today - two days ago I caught two twelve year olds trying to key it. Isn't the UK wonderful - Happy New Year. smile

What a society we have degenerated into.....

Buy a nice semi-rural home and potentially have to....
  • park car at friends to avoid it's theft
  • breed a fierce dog to keep thieves away
  • purchase decoy carkeys
  • firearms.....
  • install CCTV cameras
  • etc
sadly, fear we will see crime escalate over the next few years.

Stay safe OP.

welcome to 2009 beer

Done up MG ZR, couldn't quite make out the details but big exhaust (it was loud) and large roof spoiler! Saw them clearly at the end of the street where they need to stop at a T Junction that's lit.

Thieves with no taste then if you prefer but the scum my wife chased off last year were definitely Chavs (they got into a Accord R type though which I always thought were rather nice) as they had all the gear on (white runners, baseballcaps etc..)
