Cheap/clean hotel chain in Germany?

Sorry if this is the wrong bit of the forum but I am planning a trip through Germany in the spring and would like to know if there is a 'Travelodge' type chain for quick stops? Just want something clean , cheap and with decent parking around the Stuttgart / Munich area.

I like the Etap hotels, very cheap, clean and easy to get to if you are driving. Otherwise any of the other Accor Brands are usually good (Ibis, Mercure etc)

There's a Best Western in the centre of Stuttgart (on Marienstrasse IIRC) with a secure underground car park. A bit basic but OK for a night or two, typical of German budget hotels. No restaurant but it's in the pedestrianised zone so plenty around.

Don't know anywhere in Munich I'm afraid

ETA I'd recommend that Stuttgart BW over the Stuttgart Mercure. Better location, better rooms, better car park, similar price. Normally a loyal Accor user though.

BayerStr 95 and the Hauser SchellingStr 11

For chain hotels, I used the Ibis ones - scattered all
over the Fatherland and they are reliable.

Also, some of the Hotels around the Munich HauptBahnHof and the
OstBahnHof can be *somewhat* variable. I think some of them rent by
the hour.

Probably ok for a bunch of lads out on the razz, but
probably not ok for wife'n'kids ;->

Etaps are great, £30 a night, plenty of them & much better than Travelodges over here. Also F1 are OK for budgeting it, they are cheaper still & lots about too, booking online via your pda at a wifi spot is easy too

There didnt ever used to be any F1s in Germany: only Etaps, at that end of Accors market. Etaps only cost ff30 more too, for which you got your own bathroom and a continental breakfast...

I've used Ibis hotels in several countries, always acceptable quality and inexpensive (apart from the nightly beer bill).

Many thanks for the heads-up. I had no idea about this. We will be heading to the in-laws in Italy where many cities have restrictions on pre-Euro IV cars but Germany seems to be the first with a badge scheme. Guess the 25 year-old Merc won't be doing the trip!
