Which compact digital camera?

Mods, can you leave this in here while it's a compact? I'd like opinion from all users as well as the experts.

As the title says really, which compact camera for around £100 do people recommend? Does anyone have a Fujifilm Finepix J110W and an opinion on it?

Read some reviews on the ricoh caplio r6 you can get them for arund £115.

excellent picture, battery lasts ages. Best points for me are how quick it is to store pics to the card. Far better than any other small camera I have seen.

Probably been superseeded by now I bought mine last year but for that kind of money I recon its hard to beat. seems the R7 is an update of it for around teh same price

Don't know a great deal about them, but I've used a few and would recommend you get one with an optical view finder, as the screens are poor in daylight.

I bought a Canon because it was the only one with a 3" LCD.

That was last year and it cost me a packet!

You'd probably get the latest version (10 meg at a guess) for less than £100.

I strongly support this advice - I have an older Pentax Optio which has an optical viewfinder - for some reason the recent don't. I bought my oldest son a Canon which came with an optical VF - it seems excellent.

Agreed, we've had several, and the screen is impresive even in daylight.

Myself and my cousin took pictures of our family on Christmas day. Despite mine only being 7.1 meg, and his 10 meg, my pictures were much clearer. I hadn't heard of the make of his camera. It was a present from his missus.

If you could stretch your budget a little bit further (OK, a bit more than a little ), the Panasonic Lumix gets rave reviews, i've just ordered one!

Got the missus a Finepix s5700 for Christmas (around £80-90) and it's excellent for the price!

EDIT - Actually it's more of a P&S rather than compact...

To add another option, my Samsung camera is fantastic. Mine's IIRC only 6megathingys, my OH has just got the 10MP version, but even mine makes for fantastic-quality photos. And flatters my less than terrific photography talents...

ETA: Mine's a Samsung i6, can't remember what model hers is, but it's available from the Laminated Book of Dreams for I think about £75...
