Was having a chat with a mate over the Christmas period, about life, the universe and everything..... and the crap TV that was on offer over the last week or so..... We got around to discussing remakes of films that were poor compared to the originals (It was sparked by the 39 Steps thing that was on BBC1)

He came up with the idea of "Listing" films, in a simlar way that buildings are listed.

Basically, once a film becomes "listed" then major hoops would have to be jumped through if a director/producer wanted to remake a classic. No idea how it would work - we didn't get that far!

What films would you add to the list?

The creators of South Park (Trey Parker and Matt Stone) are very vocal on this subject, an episode of South Park (season 6, episode 9 - 'Free Hat') dealt with a possible remake/modernisation of 'Raiders of the Lost Arc' and actually caused Lucas & Speilberg to cancel a "re-working" of the film and complain to Parker and Stone.
I believe they now have an active campaign against film updates.

Anyway, just shows there are some other people working to preserve our film heritage.
