B&Q Bathrooms, any good?

Finally getting around to sorting a new bathroom, its going to be gutted and re-done from scratch.

Are B&Q any good?

Cheaper is better to be honest, want to spend as little as possible for a half decent quality, and fully installed.

I found they were better once the were put down the correct way. Whoever told B&Q that a bath should be hanging down a wall was wrong. Or is that just for display?

I have a bath, toilet and basin from B&Q which was put in by the previous owner as a tart up and sell.

You can tell it's a bit cheap but I've not had a problem with/about it

I think they're pretty good to be honest. Fitted two myself and even the £350 for sink bath and bog was good.

The way to do it is the finishings, so get some stylish taps, decent tiles, lighting etc jobs a carrot.

Well I have used their toilets once and, whilst better than your average train station, they aren't a patch on what you'll find at the Mandarin Oriental.

Really want a one-stop-shop so I can bh and moan when they fk it up all in one place!

I can see the 3rd party installer making excuses about it being a problem with the fittings and then the suupplier of the fittings saying its been installed wrong...

I must admit my original "spec" was to have a "hotel bathroom" they are generally very nice.

After seeing the prices of the taps, let alone the other fixtures I thought stuff it, I cant justify all that money, its going to be a tart-up and sell (in 12-24 months time). so cheap is good.

I did a Bodgit and Quick bathroom about three years ago in one of our bathrooms here.

Shower bath, panel, curved glass screen, 1/2 pedestal sink, bog and cystern from B&Q - £650. Shower and taps from Wickes - a lot less than B&Q. Threw in some halogen lighting and nice flooring and tiling to finish.

Fitted it myself, all fine, still very shiny and working perfectly. I'd say it was a good value for money suite which still looks good today.

I found the same. I looked at some high quality Miller cabinets/cupboards etc in October 2008. I had a brochure with me that was about 6 weeks old. As soon as one of the sales guys saw it, he told me there is a new brochure and the prices have gone up. Basically, I was offered a 5% discount which totalled £825. I said that for £800 I would buy them there & then. The y refused to budge. An hour later I found the same units on the internet for £200 less and they were delivered within a week, fantastic service

They're for people who can't decide if they want a bath or a shower... the vertical wall-bath gives them the best of both

I'd get someone competent to install it, TBH. B&Q wired up my power shower a bit wrong when they fitted my new bathroom suite, resulting in 240v or thereabouts whenever I touched the metal controls while it was running.

Admittedly they did come back and sort it out quite quickly.

Try www.victoriaplumb.com. Good stuff, very cheap and delivered to your door. Then I'm sure you can find a local plumber! I have installed a B&Q bath and although it is perfectly serviceable, I don't like the rather cheap feeling (but expensive to buy!) plastic bath panels. They just look naff.

Where abouts in Hampshire are you? Our local discount supplier has plenty of plumbers he can recommend.

I wouldn't go for the B&Q fitting. They quoted us £3000 for the bathroom and then £6000 install it. Yeah right - go and swivel.

We had a local plumber do it for £1900. Ok so he under quoted a bit in the end and was moaning a lot towards then end of the project but he finished it and did it well.

Even our most expensive fitting quote was only £3200 to come in and blast both bathrooms in 3 days at short notice.

I ask as Mrs S has just ordered a washbasin, vanity unit and crapper from said emporium and I have to fit it next weekend.

you can order the same products on the internet, I saved around 25% compared to the quotes from Bathstore.
