Motivation Techniques
Discussion
Recently, I attended a lecture (part of my uni course) talking about motivation techniques. The 1.5 hour lecture focussed mainly on music being used to motivate yourself and how it can improve your performance in whatever you are aiming to do.
Personally, I don’t tend to find music all that motivating (when attempting to give myself a kick up the arse to work). It used to but now it seems that I mainly listen to music in the car or to relax. I used to rely on using the thought of not succeeding at the task in hand to motivate me thus producing my best work but it seems that this no longer works.
This got me thinking as to what techniques I use to motivate myself and currently I can’t think of one. I'm most definately not lazy. I work hard when I get into it but getting started is hard now. This needs to change back to my old self.
So what motivation techniques if any do the members of PH use?

Try searching for 'Tony Robbins' on Amazon Books - there are several half decent and cheap practical tips type books for self-motivating beginners. You could also google/wiki 'NLP' if you want to know more about improving your communication and 'mind programming' but be careful there are some NLP nutters out there.

It may not hold any relevance to 99% of people, but sure puts early Sundays mornings in perspective for me.

I'd say a combination of goals and reminded yourself of success.
I'm currently in uni too and wish I had some motivation lectures! I often find it difficult to motivate myself to do uni work but have got a number of projects, essays etc in a file that I got good marks for and find just looking back through them, reading the results and remembering how good I felt when I got the results back works wonders. In terms of general motivation I've also got a number of videos saved on my pc that I watch from time to time that just cheer me up and motivate me.
It might sounds strange but its what works personally for me, other people I know have quotes written down etc while others dismiss it all as a load of rubbish.
I got my ideas from reading various biographies of high achievers etc but if you search the internet theres a lot of stuff out there some of which is good some of which is a bit rubbish!

Get in front of a mirror and shout at myself "YOU ARE A WINNER, YOU ARE A WINNER" repeat to fade....
Should I crack an egg into a glass, drink it then practise boxing on a hung cow followed by some running on a beach?
The aim of the thread was more along the line of interest in how other people motivate themselves. I found the technique used by the lecturer mentioned above a tad random but if it works, then good for him.
I dont plan on following a religion or anything, but was simply curious if people motivated themselves or just took everything in their stride?

Thats good to hear. I quite like the use of past work to look over. I'm currently in uni too and wish I had some motivation lectures! We've only had the one and only motivation lecture because we dont seem to have many others

Myself and PH'er Jonny_c played "Roxanne" by the police to motivate the rascal each morning when we were on the Mongol Rally. Also "Proud" by M people played on random quite near the end of our journey and that was fairly up lifting.
I have to say that I can use music to motivate me if needs be, and also that music plays a key part in my memories too. I tend to remember a key event by the song that was playing at the time.
