Worlds Strongest Man
Discussion
Really think this is top telly, even the missus likes watching it (well over the IT Crowd anyway).
Is there a limit to how huge these guys are goint to get in the future? Comparing the old boys (Geoff Capes etc) against the latest breed Marius P, just seem miles apart, yet remember at the time of Capes, thinking this guy is just huge!

I saw a bit of this the other day and a Brit, Mark Felix, was competing. Apparently he's the best dead lifter in the world and, after a string of 6 lifts getting progressively heavier, lifted 800lbs like it was a bag of shopping! Amazing strength.
No, he is far from the best, and he got done by an American 22 year old, who lifted 410kg. The word record is 455 KG, by Andy Bolton from UK.And to say he lifted it like a bag of shopping is hilarious, he couldn't match the top weight.
The yank was very unlucky not to win. I don't think he realised he was ahead of MP on the last stone.
Most of them now train to compete in strong man comps. In the old days they were mainly men at the top of their sport that "practiced" lifting starnge things for a few weeks before the competition.
I wonder how much the full time strong men make from endorsements. Are they making just enough to pay for their huge food bills and flights & accomodation - assuming that they all get free suppliments!

That yank - morris roundabout or whatever his name is. He's one to watch out for.
Poundstone is definitely the one to watch next year. Marius was fantastic as usual but i don't think he was at his best. He seemed to struggle more this year in comparison to the last few years. Bonnie and Clyde said:
Did anyone watch it in 2007 when Phil Pfister beat MP on the Atlas stones? It was a real shock to find out Jesse Marunde died
. I think it was a heart defect. Terrible shame
That was an amazing final too, if i remember correctly, MP stumbled slightly on the car lift and fumbled the last stone, bit like tonight going down to the wire. MP is awesome, but perhaps coming to the end of his reign?
. I think it was a heart defect. Terrible shameits really great viewing - shame about terry hollands the brit though. poor show for him this year.
i think the amount of 'gear' these guys must inject is incredible - they look in good physical shape but i bet their hearts are under massive strain.
did you see the old former hero bill bill kazmaier now turned co host - hes lost a lot of size since he bowed out.

Good entertaining TV - the closest we have to 'It's a Knockout'. I didn't think 'Pudsey' (good name!) was going to do it but he's a crafty blighter.
They are complete bloody idiots and it's amazing their heads don't explode, but it's fun to watch, if rather too heavily edited.
I have this crazy idea to stand on the sidelines and shout out 'Come on you bloody pansies!', then blame the person standing next to me and watch them getting beaten to jelly
