No no. Dont provide a link or any substantiation. Im more than happy with an overly exclamated headline and another opinion on how st Britain is.

Excellent contribution.

Dailyrecord said:
PIES could be banned from shops if a healthy eating campaign fails to bring down obesity levels.

UK health minister Ben Bradshaw yesterday hinted England could enact a ban, which would put Holyrood ministers under pressure to follow suit.

Bradshaw threatened to outlaw unhealthy food by limiting the amount of fat, salt and sugar in pies, pizzas and ready meals.

He will decide whether to legislate after a three-year health drive called Change4Life, which was launched in England yesterday.

Bradshaw said: "If this three-year campaign does not succeed, we don't rule out regulating in future."

Under the plans, pies, pizzas and ready meals would be targeted.

But sweets and snacks classed as confectionery would be exempt.

A final decision on any such regulations in Scotland would lie with the Scottish government, a spokeswoman said.

But it was unclear whether ministers would back the move.

The spokeswoman said: "We can't pre-empt that type of decision. We are not at that stage."

However, legislation at Westminster would put ministers under pressure to do the same in Scotland, where obesity is a big problem.

And - regardless of Holyrood's response - new English rules would inevitably have a major impact on products sold in Scotland, as supermarkets ordered suppliers to conform.

The Change4Health campaign starts with TV, magazine and billboard adverts in England today.

The Scottish government are already running similar healthy eating campaigns aimed at cutting obesity.

One in five primary school kids is overweight and one in 10 is classed as obese.

One in five adults is obese, leading to a range of health problems, including heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

Tam Fry, of the National Obesity Forum, backed legislation.

He said: "We have a food industry which is unregulated, which is putting too much fat, too much salt and too much sugar into its goods.

"Unless you get the food to the right quality, you are going to have a continuation of the problem.
Will we have to change the Pie & piston to something else?

Can't there be some kind of governing body for the news, where every article or report has to go through a bks filter before release.

Then people wouldn't get upset about street sweepers living in sold gold mansions, chocolates being sold in winter and similar unsubstansiated hysteria.

edit: Read the article. It changes the actual story "A move towards lower levels of salt and fat in pies and ready meals" to "OMG OMG they're banning nice food". Still the govt have far better things to do with their time and money.

What a crock of carp, my kids enjoy the odd MacDonalds, they like pizza, and pie chips and beans is a staple food in this house, but, we have a lot lf veg, pasta and proper cooked food, and my kids are no where near overwieght, if anything they have room for a bit more (skinny, scrawny waifs that they are), why do they have to come up with something that impacts everyone instead of targetting the ones that need help?

It's like all this low fat stuff, jeesh if I ate that I would fade away into nothing.

And another thing, if the bloomin gobberment hadn't sold all the school playing fields off and reduced the amount of PE the kids do,(and scared kids off about playing out) then maybe we would have a generation of fit and healthy kids.

Quite right, my family eat a fair amount of junk food etc, but none of us are overweight. This is due to moderation and exercise.

Also low fat ready meals etc are usually worse, v high salt levels etc. Nothing beats home cooked.

If they want to stop people getting fat, they'll simply put a huge tax on food!

Well, that is what they usually do when they want to control something, booze, fags, petrol, flights etc etc.

Her: Does this dress make my bum look fat.

Him: No, it's the pies and do-nuts that do that.

"He (Labour minister) will decide whether to legislate after a three-year health drive"

In three years time he won't get the chance. Opposition MPs or MPs out of a job can't legislate.
