Salzburg or Innsbruck

Given there's no travel section I thought I'd post in here.
Myself and Mrs Screwloose are planning a 4 day-ish stay somewhere snowy during February. So far we've narrowed it down to these two places.
They both seem to accomodate none skiers at this time of year without being prohibitively expensive. Any other such places at this time of year for us to consider?
Now, bearing in mind this will not be an out and out ski break but more a visit to a beautiful place with the possibility of some tobogganing, sley rides, skidooing or other such activites which would you guys opt for?

Mrs Screwloose has never been skiing but the idea of spectacular snow covered vistas and views really appeals to her as does the idea and romance associated with such places. Therefore given we only have 4 days or so rather than spend the time learning to ski and falling over a lot I'd rather spend the time soaking in the place, whichever place it may be.
Innsbruck or Salzburg?

Reccomendations for things to do in either or places to stay or eat would be welcomed. Budget isn't big so just somewhere clean, welcoming and well located would be great. We'd rather spend the little money we do have for this trip on experiences and eating out etc.

Innsbruck for skiing (probably), Salzburg for everything else.

Hi Jonny,

If you're not going primarily for skiing I'd go for Salzburg, a beautiful city with so much to see. I spent the day there years back, in transit back to the airport after a ski trip.
Innsbruck on the other hand seemed in comparison a much smaller town, you might get bored after a day. However, if you fancied a day in the mountains Seefeld is on about 35 mins from the town centre. There's plenty of gentle skiing (Alpine and Nordic) to be had here, ideal for novices.

if you are going to salzburg and want to see mountain vistas with loads of snow you can get to Zell am See easily on the train, bought an hour and fifteen trip ISTR.

Have been to both, but hesitated to reply as it was a long time ago. However, the consensus seems to confirm my memories.
Innsbruck was great, and indeed most of Austria is beautiful, but Salzburg was stunning.
Particularly remember how spotlessly clean it was.

Innsbruck is devastatingly boring, we refferred to it as "the city that always sleeps" when we were there.

Just noticed your budget comments; it won't be cheap, especially at current exchange rates.

As with all tourist resorts, food and drink will be pricey in the 'hotspots'.

I was in Innsbruck today strangely enough as the wife and I had some time to kill before a mid afternoon flight back to the UK. It's a pretty place to stroll around for a few hours but I reckon you'd be bored silly if you were planning on staying for a few days.
